The focus; her clapping, “You’re down 15 points. Shut up,” and of course the “you can’t see me” hand wave.

I addressed this in a thread earlier, dumb arse. She was talking to her teammate and roommate from Team USA. The Louisville coach is also team USA's coach. Stop using this as your main example.

The Reese gif will be used often when LSU loses. Congrats on that.

This.

The media would love to cancel Coach Mulkey. They can't because she's just too damned good at what she does.

She is a good coach. She is also annoying.

A Great White Hope puts buts in the seat... Goes back to Larry Bird. ESPN was rooting for her because basketball is becoming more and more a niche audience.

I think part of it was the novelty of her chucking from all over similar to what Steph Curry does. Other guys may score thirty but when he pulls up from the logo it is exciting.

I tend to agree that she went over board. But its not worthy of the hate she is getting on twitter and in the media.
This is it. This is the take.

That said, I don't think it takes much critical thinking to conclude that this blew up because it happened in the most watched game of the year vs. Clark doing all of her antics in front of a max of 15k people in attendance and watching on TV during the season.

I also don't think the backlash would be as severe if there weren't such a staunch defense to clearly unsportsmanlike behavior. I know I personally wouldn't have posted about it so much if it wasn't so effective at getting under people's skin. The "outrage" from both sides fed into each other.

That LSU team and Mulkey deserved that championship they worked their butt off all year and was consistently one of the top 2 teams in WCBB. Angel Reese should tell them all to kiss the ring and to screw themselves

It actually goes back to James Jeffries against Jack Johnson in 1910.

Jefferies lost, which is why he's known as the Great White Hope, and not the Great White Boxer. And that's when the white people rioted:

The Johnson–Jeffries riots refer to the dozens of race riots that occurred throughout the United States after African-American boxer Jack Johnson defeated white boxer James J. Jeffries in a boxing match termed the "Fight of the Century". Johnson became the first black World Heavyweight champion in 1908 which made him unpopular with the predominantly white audience of boxing. Jeffries, a former heavyweight champion came out of retirement to fight Johnson and was nicknamed the "Great White Hope". After Johnson defeated Jeffries on July 4, 1910, many white people felt humiliated and began attacking black people who were celebrating Johnson's victory.

Yeah, that's not looking like it's actually going to be "often".

This situation is slowly, but surely opening my eyes up a little bit more to the race issue we have in this country. Why was the exact opposite done to Caitlyn when she did it? Truly interesting.

This is absolutely spot on. She went too far (in my opinion) following her around, but it’s being blown way out of proportion.

Watch ESPN use this as an example of double standard of race in sports and public. Now they are pushing this theme and milking it for all its worth. They will continue to show the comments against Reese as case in point. The sad thing is they have the power to smash it and move on, but they won’t . It’s win win for them because it keeps attention to the sport and their narrative.

Irrespective of taunting / in-game trash, black/white, etc., how lame is it that Angel’s MOTIVATION for her poor sportsmanship was somehow contriving outrage and taking personal offense to a hand motion Clark did in an entirely different game, to an entirely different opponent, which overwhelmingly was a sign of “I’m accounting for that player” vs. some kind of passive aggressive taunt.

That, in a nutshell, to me is what makes Angel immature, and therefore not to be respected

This is an example of blowing it out of proportion. Are you telling me you never did anything dumb or over the top when you were a 19-20 year old in college??
