TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama linebacker Courtney Upshaw and a female student identified as his girlfriend were free on bond Thursday after being arrested on a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence and third-degree harassment.
Upshaw practiced Thursday afternoon and afterward coach Nick Saban said he would not be suspended for the opener Sept. 5 against Virginia Tech but would be punished internally and placed on "behavior probation." He said it was the first time Upshaw has had an issue on or off the field since arriving on campus.
quote:
"This is as fine a young man as we have in the program," Saban said. "Really a great person. Really works hard academically. I couldn't ask anybody to be a better representative of the organization than he is. He really overachieves as a football player.
"I think he was put in a little bit of an uncompromising position and didn't handle it very well. He obviously made a mistake in how he handled the situation and I think nobody feels worse than he does."

Funny how these upstanding men always seem to find themselves at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Every fanbase is guilty of defending their players when they get into trouble
It typically doesn’t involve a murder though

Never arrested or in trouble again and played 7 or so years in the NFL. Sounds like the right call was made

So why are you sharing it? How does it relate to the current happenings? I believe it turned out that Upshaw’s girlfriend started hitting him and he pushed back or something. Hence the charges being dropped against him.
Upshaw was never in trouble again and became a great player and leader for Alabama. Played several seasons in the NFL and won a Super Bowl with the Ravens.

Isn't this the one where the girl's dad was so full of bammer he said she deserved it?

Why are there so many more stories like it from Alabama?

Can you provide the link to where our head coach at the time called them upstanding men at the wrong place at the wrong time?
From your link:
quote:
Auburn Coach Gene Chizik, of course, immediately dismissed all four from the team stating that, "This type of behavior will not be tolerated at Auburn."
Poor guys like Harris and Upshaw (and how many others at Alabama). Great guys who deserve everyone’s sympathy.

Why do LSU, Auburn, Georgia, etc. have many of the same type of stories?
Not defending any of these guys, but posting decade-plus old stories has no bearing on what is happening now. Especially an old story from a different sport.

Who is defending the murderer? Or even Miles?

How many players from LSU, Auburn, Georgia, etc have been involved in first degree murder?

Well they clearly committed a felony, and were charged.
Miller didn't commit any crimes, and is considered a cooperating witness, per investigators.

Please link one story where another program not only excused disgusting behavior (murder, domestic violence, etc) but had leadership publicly singing the player’s praises?
It’s fricking weird how Alabama’s athletic program and fanbase has zero empathy for the victim. Just blatant defense of their “ball players” who are just “good ole boys who don’t know no wrong.”
