How can a team not be prepared for opening day?

Per Mike Griffith's article about the loss:

quote:

UGA lacks competitive facilities and does not waive out-of-state tuition for recruits like other SEC rival programs.

WTF? Why don't we do this?

Georgia recently announced that the completion of upgraded and renovated facilties would be delayed yet another year because of economic challenges.

So UT is spending $55 million and MSU $70 million on baseball facilities but we're delaying a $30 million upgrade because of "economic challenges."

Ridiculous

So the athletic spending is why the loss? What is Jax St's baseball spending?

To be fair…even with an elite level of spending, what is ROI on baseball at UGA?

we spent $2.15M on our program with many coaches

Jax St spent $801,400 and has 3 total coaches

side not, Jax St broke even, having brought in $801,400....while UGA last year managed to bring in $740,000

While facilities certainly matter, baseball has been played at a high level long before fancy facilities were even a thing.

I think the point is that now, a lot of other schools have the fancy facilities that make the top prospects want to go there...when facilities were not fancy, they were on par with other programs

Right, but not Jackson State. Besides, what players want doesnt have to expensive. We could have certainly equipped a pitching lab before now.

Tennessee has always had poor baseball facilities not much better than us but they hired a young energetic guy that kids get fired up to play for. It only took his third full season there to win 50 games and go to omaha.

Its simple, if you get a coach that can recruit that kids line up to play for you can win a lot of gamws even without world class facilities. We have a guy that by many accounts is a turd and a jerk that can't even recruit the absolute gold mine of metro Atlanta baseball despite it being an hour from campus. He suxks and no amount of pitching labs or outdoor party decks are going to transform him suddenly into a great coach.

I disagree. Over the last 7-8 years, UT has dramatically improved their facility. Every year they are doing something. Pretty sure a couple years ago they also announced an even bigger renovation coming. But yes, they also went out and got themselves the Bruce Pearl of baseball

Simple fact is Georgia doesn’t give a shite and it shows, both in facilities and leadership.

Basketball has been mired by much of the same apathy.

Football escaped the mentality because the money finally said enough was enough and forced change while backing it up with their wallets.

My hope was the success in football would be infectious enough to spur change from within and it’s still early. But pretty clear something needs to be done, both in baseball and gymnastics

Okay but what about out-of-state tuition deal? You only get 11.2 scholarships and it obviously has to get spread out.I would think any additional advantage would help

Why don't we do this? Seems very petty and McGarity like.

UTs committment was easy, Randy Boyd, The UT President owns the Smokies, a Minor League Baseball team. He knows how to work it.

Whats funny is baseball overall is cheap compared to football facilities... You dont need the best, just good enough to make the players happy and comfortable at their home school near their familiy.
