Out of all the tackles over 130 years of football, it is surprising it has never happened before (at the pro or college level that I can recall). That is if the physical contact had anything to do with it.

Was watching a doctor on YT discussing it; said that you have to hit someone at the exact moment in the cardiac rhythm. That's why it's super rare.

I could, and would, watch. Where do you plan on drawing the line in terms of “unwatchable” games, post-injury, going forward?

You’re a kid who obviously doesn’t know any better. Football isn’t supposed to be life a,d death. Grow up.

A coworker at my last company ran over and killed a guy in a company vehicle one morning. He got the rest of the day off work and that was it.

The deceased was a crazy that walked a busy roadway and had a history of stepping out in front of cars.

Do you recall Florida vs. FSU in 2020, when Keyontae Johnson collapsed? Very scary stuff.

The game continued. That was an unpaid college athlete. I fully expect professional athletes to be able to resume play in a similar fashion.

You do realize BOTH teams agreed they could not play. CPR is only to move the blood with oxygen to the brain until they can get an AED there to shock him. He was apparently intubated…,This isn’t a broken leg or rib it is life or death. Pray for him.

It's happened once before, in 1971.

Thanks for the link. I seem to recall that story as a kid, but had totally forgotten about it. That dude seemed like he was in much worst shape than this guy though. Playing 7 weeks after a heart attack!

Rumors are it’s likely a rare heart condition that caused the heart to lose conductivity or the electrical impulses that cause it to beat with a sharp blow and that it’s typically fatal, but maybe if they can get it to beat again in time.

Of course, like some pos on here and the NFL and super pos Roger GoToHell told them to play, but the players and coaches said frick you bitch. I was really looking forward to this game too, but good for them

You realize there was no CPR in Thompson’s situation? You have any clue how much more dire it is when you need CPR? About 90% if people who receive CPR don’t survive you dumb frick.

From a direct hit I think yeah is pretty rare. From 2000-2015 according to Wikipedia 55 notable athletes died of cardiac arrest under the age of 40. Specifically dying on the field at an NFL game is quite rare.

I doubt he's a kid. When your empathy is broken that fundamentally you can't 'grow' it up or generally any at all. Toddlers sometimes display that level of selfishness but they are in a stage of human development where that's normal. And while you do sometimes see that sort of behavior in tweens or in toxic school environments even the worst bully or twattiest brat tends to snap to the moment there's a realization that someone is in hurt or in real danger. Past that age or those types of circumstances, it's not normal and points to something else entirely.

You’ve hit rock bottom. And you continue to dig. Whattaboutism is never a good argument. This kid is in life and death. Who cares about a football game to keep you entertained? Commotio cordis

Dang.
Didn't look like that big of a hit, almost nothing.

Heart attack?
