Definitely different but always entertaining. You just never knew what you were gonna get. RIP Coach.

Really disrespectful and odd to compare Mike Leach to Les Miles. By all accounts, Leach was a wonderful man who always had time for anyone he crossed paths with. The same can definitely not be said about Miles, who may have been a sexual predator.

Was thinking about coaches who are eccentric characters and still good football coaches. Glad you started this thread.
Leach and Miles immediately come to mind. But beyond those two, I can’t think of many.
Kiffin maybe, with his snarky sense of humor.
Maybe Wimp Sanderson with his grumpy old man in plaid persona. But who else? Most coaches are button down coach speak all the time. Miles and Leach proved you can have a sense of humor and be good coaches.

When Miles was at LSU, I would see him every weekend at Orange Beach during the summer. Usually on a beautiful 50’ yacht flying a fightin tigers flag heading out of the pass.

No one "perceived" Mike Leach as goofy. They perceived him as captivating and entertaining and I know Mike Leach was smart. He had the cred to back it up.
