Texas A&M's AD, others, don't understand field storming after LSU win

There's nothing quite like Jimbo Fisher, in his 5th year with the 4th most talent in the country, springing a massive upset at home over a rebuilding LSU team.
Some weren't fans of the wild celebrations that ensued after one of the biggest wins in Aggie history, the athletic director included.

Texas A&M was fined $250,000 for the raucous celebration, money that had previously been set aside toward Jimbo Fisher's buyout but was no longer needed for that purpose after Saturday night's program defining win.

The Texas A&M athletics director is calling for the fan base to look at the big picture after topping SEC rival LSU on Saturday. It was a positive way to cap a season that ended without bowl eligibility despite the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class.

There are wins that necessitate storming the field. Tennessee beating Alabama to snap a long win streak comes to mind. Texas A&M beating No. 5 LSU to finish with a 5-7 record does not.
But Aggie fans did it anyway, eliciting some pretty crazy reactions from social media. And not only did they rush the field, but they did not even do it correctly, leaving the stands before the game was even finished.

To close out the 2022 season, A&M upset its SEC West “rival” LSU, which effectively ruined the Tigers’ chances at reaching the College Football Playoff. It was a good win that came just a little bit too late, because the Aggies will not play in a bowl game.
Although it may seem silly for a 5-7 team to storm the field to celebrate a win over the nation’s No. 6-ranked team after beginning the year ranked No. 6 — because it is — storming the field is fun, especially for the students. Fun should always be encouraged, even if it’s an extremely embarrassing look for the program, which it was at Kyle Field.
However, if you’re going to storm the field, you have to do it right.
Texas A&M did not do it right.
With 17 seconds left in the game, the Aggies student section poured onto the field. The game was not over and all of the people who made their way out onto the gridiron had to go right back where they came from.
In a year that was full of chaos, there were a lot of field storms. While many of them were warranted after wins over top-ranked teams, some of the on-field celebrations came as something of a consolation prize during a bad season.
It was combination of the two in College Station on Saturday night. Texas A&M had no business storming the field to cap an extremely underwhelming year, but it did so anyway after a strong season-ending win.
That would have been fine, except for the fact that they completely bungled the execution. Tough scene.

Students and fans tried to celebrate the upset win by storming the field a little too prematurely. Fans began rushing the field with 17 seconds remaining on the clock. After crossing the sidelines, they then had to run back the other direction so the game could end.
That’s not something you tend to see very often. But it’s probably a sign that Texas A&M fans were just eager to celebrate something — anything! — and didn’t want to wait the extra 17 seconds.
Texas A&M finished the season with a 5-7 record. At least the Aggies can say they defeated the SEC West champion, right?

LSU stormed the field after beating Ole Miss.

as a LSU fan I won’t knock another fan base for field storming

For once I agree with you, Sidewalk. Beating LSU at Kyle Field has become the expected.
We have a spirited student fan base so you will have to excuse them.

The sheer effort. Dedication. Obsession. It’s uncanny. You and Pthephen are both PERFECT for Louisiana State University.

I'm with Ross. Nobody should storm the field after dominating an opponent, being up 21 late in the 4th. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconcheers.gif)

Reminder that the TS said it's normal to record women without their consent.

There's nothing quite like pedo kelly, with the 5th ranked team, losing when it matters to a 7 loss team playing mostly 2nd and 3rd string 18-19 year olds.
Did I do it right?

And LSU has stormed the field against Ole Miss twice in 8 seasons.

Only time I can understand storming the field is winning the championship. It’s a typical current day reaction. It’s stupid copycat weak bs.

Missouri stormed the field after beating Arkansas. It's just nobody noticed because so few fans attend their games

Which one of those publications do you “cover CFB” for?

Nah but storming the field was dumb. Beating LSU at Kyle is routine now.

$250,000 ?
While storming the field was pretty dumb, $250,000 is just walking around money. SEC needs to find a better deterrent. While that sounds like a lot to some poor school in a neighboring state the players could pay that from NIL money.

Apparently beating LSU is not as big of a deal as beating ole miss.
