This is my opinion based on history, current NIL, money, support and current success.
Tier 1
1. Alabama
2. Ohio St.
3. Georgia
4. LSU
5. Michigan
6. USC
Tier 2
7. Texas
8. Oklahoma
9. Clemson
10. Florida
11. Tennessee
12. Oregon
13. Penn St.
14. Notre Dame
Tier 3
15. Texas A&M
16. Auburn

There are 129 FBS football teams, it seems that the top 15 would all be "tier 1" jobs.

There is a clear tier 1, pretty clear tier 2 then it gets a little murky when you get to tier 3 and beyond. That is why I set it up like I did.

Last 3 coaches have won national titles. The school recruits itself. Just won the west. Plenty of money and resources.
In the current state of college football it is certainly a top 5 job.

Not anymore. NIL and wide spread recruiting have changed the game. This isn't 2002.

Top of tier 2. If they still locked down the high school talent in Texas like they did 15 years ago they would be tier 1. But that has changed and the program has fallen a half step.

Location matters. Recruits look for money, but they want to stay close to home also.

It's been over a decade since Texas was last notable and they've had 4 different coaches over that time span. Clearly the coach matters more than the university when it comes to success. That's not a trait of a tier 1 program IMO.
Take LSU for instance, they've had 3 coaches win a national title in the last 20 years. This is a sign the program can carry the coach.

A&M you have a huge NIL fund, get paid top salary, and 90% of the fanbase will defend you until you’re dead last in the conference. You really gotta frick up for them to turn on you.
