2022 Alabama is better than 2023 Bama will be

I'm struggling to find any reason 2023 Alabama won't be a further dropoff from this team. This was supposed to be the dominant team with next season lining up as a rebuild year.
Milroe as QB? Or an untested Ty Simpson?
Same WR corp that played like shite against UGA in the title game, and all of this season.
No obvious OL solution. Losing 3-4 starters.
TE Latu gone.
HB Gibbs likely gone.
Losing a minimum of 7 defensive starters including Will Anderson.
Saban another year older. Same DC likely. Maybe stuck with Obrien again.
Can anyone point to any concrete reason Bama should improve? The only optimism I see is that Texas, LSU, Ole Miss, and Tennessee will be home games.

Time for Nick Saban to be sent into retirement.

Okay. So after going 10-2, you’re going to go 8-4.
Welcome to the party, pal!

At least as important, will Alabama's 2023 OC be better than the 2022 OC?

It's amazing how much people don't understand how an OC or DC can make or break an offense or defense. O'Brien sucks...
We can use the transfer portal, just like we did this year. Hoping we get an OC that knows to find and develop talent better than O'Brien has.

I'm not convinced the DC will make a big difference but I definitely think a new OC will. It's obvious the OC is bringing the team down bad. I think a new one improves the offense drastically.
I don't see a new DC being the fabled solution tho. At the end of the day this is Sabans defense
And yeah the talent will probably drop down a bit but not that much.
I still would pick Alabama as a contender for the West with LSU in Tuscaloosa. Ole Miss/Auburn maybe in a transition. Texas A&M is a non factor. We need a QB who can throw over 10 yards down field and receivers for our offense to actually work. And not sure about Arkansas but wouldn't put them up there yet.
Seems like Alabama/LSU to decide the West this early out

The transfer portal changed everything. It's worked wonders for LSU this year. It's harder now than ever to try to map out what teams will look like in the next 1-2 years almost to the point where it seems like a fool's errand.

Eli Ricks and Jermaine Burton have done next to nothing.

If Ty Simpson takes the next step and looks like the 5 star recruit he was, I think Bama will be ok in 2023. If he can't beat out Milroe, hello 9-3 at best. The rest of the offense will be similar to this season, maybe a little better. The WR group has to be better just by default. We'll have a new OC so that's obviously a big hire. BOB was going to be gone after this season regardless.
Now the defense...DL should be better. Corners should be ok... especially if Ricks did decide to return (as he should). LB and safety will need some guys to step up in the spring.
Bama might be the hunter instead of the hunted going into a season for the first time in a long time...but I still figure they'll start the season ranked around #5-6.

Play calling has been a huge liability for Alabama’s offense this year. They are stuck in the 90s with a smart quarterback who is superb at extending plays, but doesn’t like to use his feet, and hasn’t thrown a deep ball since his injury in the Arkansas game. I think the offense will step forward next year with the right OC who can maximize matchups that favor the skill players.
On defense, I’m not sure what the deal will be. Saban is a secondary coach, but the Alabama secondary has played poorly all season. There were two balls that should’ve been easily picked off last week that fell incomplete because of the way the secondary is playing the receiver rather than the ball. They’ve got good athletes out there, but something is off.
Also, there have been some strange schemes on defense this year. We’ve seen plays where Alabama is running a 1-5-5 defense against really good running teams. Giving up 5+ yards on first down runs has really hurt them. Maybe that is because of a lack of depth at DL?

That is all very true. Before the NIL stuff and the portal, this would have been a hell of a next year or two. We could parry just fine.

If Saban retires yeah, but Bama can go fix their problems in the portal with no problems whatsoever.

I'm no huge Obrien fan, but I think he is being used as a cop-out so we don't have to face reality. He's the same coordinator that set records last season. We have massive talent deficiencies, especially at WR, that some just can't admit.

I feel like it could be a wash for Bama on offense even with a new OC if Young and Gibbs go as expected along with Latu considering what the rest of the offense has contributed.
Just replacing a QB as tough and gifted as Young is harder when you don't have guys like Smith, Waddle, etc., that Bama has had in the past that could house 5-yard passes on any play.

Agree. It's not like Bama falls off the map. But in today's game, the gap between the dominant top 2 or 3 teams is massive compared to the group behind them. Sort of like Clemson this year. Ranked high, but everyone knows its not the Clemson we are used to.

Bama fans are drama queens and weird.

Kansas will surpass Alabama in football very soon

You adapt to what you have. Have you seen any evidence we’ve done that? Or have we continued to hammer square pegs into round holes?

It's hard to scheme around an OL that can't consistently run block and WRs that can't get open. What is the magic that you suggest he sprinkle onto the offense?
