For those unaware or in need of a reminder, let’s take a history lesson. When Mullen left in 2017, Cohen was tasked to fill the vacancy and here were the names SERIOUSLY considered by Cohen at that time, all of whom were offered or made the second interview…

Billy Napier currently 4-4 (declined offer)
Brent Venables currently 5-3 (interviewed)
Joe Moorhead currently 1-8 (hired)

After squandering easily the most talented team I’ve ever seen in maroon and white and after rampant reports of losing the program, to his credit, Cohen cut bait and fired Moorhead…the search continued in 2020…

Joe Judge was offered the job, but in the 13th hour picked the NY Giants HC job and proceeded to go 10-23 and was fired after only two seasons.

Which brings us to Leach…currently 16-16 as HC at MSU. Now, clearly Mississippi State is at a disadvantage to most of the schools in the SEC, but schools like Florida, Oklahoma, and a once successful NFL team are in different stratospheres in comparison to MSU, but the selections Cohen has made have so far been weak (at best) and a pattern is forming in his inability to decipher what a program builder looks like. If those guys can’t get it done with the built in advantages and resources at blue blood programs, it’s a safe bet that they all, save leach (who is still a too early to call), would have been unmitigated disasters at MSU, as they are barely relevant, or trending towards the hot seat, at powerhouse programs.

Good luck convincing Cohen on anything. He thinks he’s a genius, but his results prove otherwise.

I think that only a 2-3 coaches I’ve seen on the wish list have a real shot at turning auburn around…better hope Cohen has the same vision….if not, y’all are ferkt

False

Napier’s pr team made this up to make him seem like a more attractive candidate.

Truthfully a lot of schools didn’t offer him because they knew he was a bad coach.

Moorhead totally wasted all that talent we had. I could have won 8 games myself. The defense was very good but stayed on the field all damn day because his offense completely sucked. Moorhead was not ready for that job.

It’s too early to tell on Leach, 32 games in, but Napier is a failure after 8 games? Just checking the math on that one?

None of this will matter. Cohen won't have anything to do with picking the next Auburn football coach.

Looks like a great list as far as Miss State goes.

Mullen would have won 10-11 games with that 2018 team in his offense.

He would have beat UK and Florida for sure and probably LSU.

He was so bad at MSU that they recently offered him an extension in JULY

Cohen "signed a four-year extension at Mississippi State in July that raised his salary" to $1.1M from $950,000.
