According to AL.com, Harsin and Mason got in an argument over who to hire as D-line coach. Mason wanted to make the hire unilaterally, but Harsin wanted to make the hire himself.

Mason looked up at Harsin and said:

quote:

"I've been a head coach in this league longer than you."

Harsin responded:

quote:

"Oh, you mean at Vanderbilt?"

I don’t know what you’re laughing about.

Harsin coached on a cartoon field.

Harsin was an awful coach but our defense regressed under Mason.

Mason’s record Pre-Auburn and post-Auburn makes me think that comeback was justified. Mason has always had this air of superiority about him; in reality, he has always been a mediocre defensive coordinator. Failing miserably at Vanderbilt with James Franklin’s players doesn’t exactly make you a fount of SEC coaching wisdom. And Oklahoma State’s defense couldn’t catch a cold in January this year. Never trusted Mason, but at the same time, Harsin hired him to begin with.

Mason does suck, but Schmedding is on a whole different level of suck.

Hard to believe Mason was the most competent coach on Harsins staff.

I don’t knock Harsin for this - he was the head coach and his subordinate was challenging his authority. Harsin was terrible but he was still the head coach

Mason does suck. His defense isn’t near as good as our next head coach, Steele.

Damnit, how jaded am I that fully expect something like this to really happen?

Our scoring defense this year: 97th
Last year: 36th

I think it’s more Harsin sucks

This is also the micromanagement shite that I’m hearing more and more about. Mason is running his defense, Harsin doesn’t know defense, but Harsin wants to dictate which DL coach to hire. Why hire the DC to run his own system if you’re still going to limit the effectiveness of the system?

That’s on top of reports that Friend wanted to get a bunch of OL by transfer portal but Harsin wanted to work with what he got.

Kinda reminds me of Chizik post natty. He went from CEO to micromanaging for some reason.

I think I posted this during the coup:

Mike Bobo has been telling people that this was by far the most dysfunctional working situation he had ever seen. Now you have the report from the UGA site that corroborates that Bobo had to "drag" Harsin to attend recruiting meetings.

Like I said before, these guys DID try to help him.

Harsin also wouldn't let Will Friend make several offers/take commitments from more than one OL target as well. Will Friend isn't amazing or good or anything, but it's BS that people on forums have been making him eat shite about not landing OL commits - meanwhile you have the HC basically blocking guys we could have landed.

This would be a huge red flag to me. My boss reports to the President who reports to CEO...if any of them tried to tell me who to hire of my 7, I'd be searching other options.

Just a horrible decision to go to a power run game by Chiz without recruiting for that style. He saw LSU and Bama dominate with power run games so he thought with the talent brought in he could just switch to that and hadn't recruited lineman or a true elite pocket QB.
