Kool-Aid McKinstry was on the 30-yard line when that flag came out...

And it was thrown by the official on the opposite side of the field. My work computer doesn't allow me to paste a direct link to the picture so I am going to link to the post on Twitter. Maybe it was DPI, maybe it wasn't, but the side judge who was standing right there never threw the flag. The ref that did came in from the opposite side of the end zone long after the foul had occurred.

It was a block in the back. They decided after they huddled up to call the PI.

Refs had some money on that game
Even had to review a 4th down to make sure they couldn’t give UT 5 downs

When reviewing the play he was blocked from the view. But in his view he saw a Alabama DB chasing a WR that fell to the ground. I thought I heard someone say he pushed the WR down and why the call but in the review the WR fell on his own and why the ref on the side where the INT was made did not call it because he saw the WR fall by his own accord.
The play changed the outcome of the game but in the end our play calling put us in that situation to begin with.

That was hands down the worst and most blatant called complete game I have ever seen at any level.

I've bitched about this play for 2 days now. I have no clue a) how that is pass interference, B0 how you wait 4 seconds to throw a flag on PI.

It took them a minute to realize a block in the back on the return wouldn't give possession back to TN...had to find a new penalty.

Can someone find that ref’s location at the time of contact? Based on my recollection of the play, he had to have had several players obstructing his view
Additionally, as someone said earlier, if Kool-Aid drops that ball, do the refs get together and throw the flag 8 seconds after the play? If one ref can’t definitively make a judgment call like PI, then several shouldn’t get together and do so

Sideline video of the pic. Just a quick timeline
At 17 seconds the ref that threw the flag calls an incomplete pass before realizing it was intercepted
Several seconds later the ref throws the flag. Dozens of yards from any other official
He should have to come out and say that he unilaterally made the call despite being far away AND the Bama defender allegedly interfering was on the other side of the UT receiver
If this isn’t true, then two or more officials got together and decided to enforce a penalty that neither called in real time. I know they do this for grounding, but pass interference is a very different call that doesn’t have the list of elements like grounding
Frankly I don’t see how either scenario can be considered proper officiating

go back and freeze the few frames that show the ref who threw the flag under the Goal. Is it me or is he signaling incomplete?

He signals incomplete, then throws the flag

I mentioned that in my post. He seems to initiate it but stops when he realizes it’s a pic

Maybe, he’s 60-70 feet away when the play is made. It’s several seconds before he throws the flag.
I’ve seen a lot of football in my years, but that’s the first flag I’ve even seen thrown for interference late AND from across the field. I can’t remember one thrown from across the field before on anything period that every official wasn’t throwing one at it.

This crew was in the tank for TN. Unbelievable.
And people see the 130 vs 39 penalty yards and just excuse it away by saying we're a sloppy team. First of all, we have issues but we're not a sloppy team. Secondly, TN was averaging more penalties than Alabama going in.

This crew should be investigated and have their bank records examined. About as dirty of a game as I've ever seen. If they received threats after the game, it was justified.

Almost seems like a conspiracy to have the worse crew, whom were suspended a couple years back, officiate the most important game of the day.

Any contact info for league office or officials? Might be interesting for them to get a few thousand calls or emails.

I am ready to put that tinfoil hat on.
If only we had a competent officiating crew..if only

I found it a little odd that the ref who was reviewing the replay for targeting was laughing his arse off. Never seen that before during a replay review. He was the same guy who was standing 5 feet away when it happened and didn't throw a flag
