Why’d it take so long to determine the 4th down series?

I thought it would take just a few seconds for them to check with the official play by play stat guy. Anybody following on ESPN’s online play by play game cast should have had that.

Those refs have issues. I’ve never seen that crew before.

... and why were they calling a Top 10 matchup.
I've never seen them before either.

Must have needed more time to give Tennessee's players a rest and chance to get everything straight on defense.

Most incompetent crew I’ve ever seen in an SEC game. If was any other team than Alabama, people would be losing their minds.

Autry has been around a couple of years and Ive seen the wing with Saban a while too. On Autry’s second UT TD confirmation, as he dropped his hands from the TD signal, he gave an almost enthusiastic double-fisted pump like he was really pleased the call stood.
Wonder if that was the best crew the conference had or just the best crew without conflicts of interest.

That’s what I was thinking - and I usually defend the officials, due to the speed of the game these days.
I thought they looked very nervous and maybe not up to the moment.

A few possessions later they actually have Tennessee an extra down…I’m almost 100% sure

The only extra down I know they got was their extra plays on offense after that BS PI call in the endzone.

They were astonished by the shite play of this team. I forgot what down it was as well.

I thought I must have imagined that. Was it on the possession with the fumble that was blown dead?

I don't know if it's still the case, but it used to be the head linesman's job to coordinate with the chain crew and monitor the down marker on every play and make sure it's correct. So he fricked up also. Plus, every official wears the wrist band with a loop that they move from one finger to the next on every play. So one of them should have noticed. Every official keeps track of what down it is with the wristband.

I’m not exactly sure but it was in the 4th quarter and after that series that they debated the 4th down call. Like I said, I’m almost certain it happened!!

I saw the same thing. The fumble blown dead was play one, and then they ran like 4 more plays after it.
