I'm more convinced than ever that Auburn is going to hire Freeze

To the point where it's almost a foregone conclusion barring something really off the wall. How do you Aubies feel about that?

I think it'll be Grimes from Baylor. Then some smart program will eventually come and throw the bag at the actual man behind the curtain at Baylor, Aranda.
Not that I think Grimes would be a bad hire, he could turn out really good. I just think if you're an SEC program with a history like Auburn's you should be able to get THE guy, not "A" guy.

It’s the best Auburn can do

Ole Phil Marshall sure does run in every time someone makes a negative comment about Freeze(which is nearly every comment) and defends him. He is the mouthpiece for the GOB's so its not beyond the realm of possibilities. Freeze would be a risky hire due to his repeated poor judgement

Auburn knows a little about poor judgement.
Seems like they should tie the knot

Not really that. It's the fact his teams were awful when he left. He left the cupboard bare.

Don't disagree. I think Auburn would take Gus back in a heartbeat.

It's asinine, which means it's likely to happen.
Bruce had a barbecue. Freeze was paying prostitutes and apparently got in trouble again for harassment. On top of that, he's from that same school of thought that brought us Malzahn. I really wish Auburn would get off the smallball train of thought, but I guess the still think some high school or P5 wonderkid is going to solve all of our problems. Half the fanbase thinks Deion Sanders is our only hope. It's sad, but par for the course.

If I had to guess
We kick around names like Aranda or Fickle for a week. One looks promising for a few days then it fades out for some reason or another.
We then go pretty hard on Lane. I think Lane will be receptive to AU (or other upgrade openings this cycle) but I also think there are plenty of reasons a coach may decline to move from a medium P5 school to a big P5 school even if they have interest. So I'd lean slightly in favor of him staying at Ole Miss if that push actually happened, 60-40, maybe 55-45.
If he stayed, then I think we hire Grimes. He's the Gus of this cycle that we know is there and is probably interested and that most AU people are mostly at peace with after a couple bigger names dry up. I also think there is the chance that we flirt with some other current HC's knowing Grimes will be targeted all along.

It looks bleak for Auburn. The moment you fire Harsin, Kiffin is going to swoop in and take all of your best players.

They could do a lot worse. .......

Best Players? Name an underclassman at AU that would improve Ole Miss roster.

There aren't any good players left. The ones there now will all be gone. If you haven't noticed, Auburn hasn't exactly set the world on fire on the recruiting trail the last few cycles.

We are gonna end up with some Jeremy Pruitt type. A guy that has been around the SEC a bunch and gets his first head coaching job. That is the knock on Harsin from most Auburn fans. He’s not SEC so they will for sure hire a coach that has been around the SEC. We are gonna be UT Redux.
