Hey guys, I’m in town for the Vandy game tomorrow from out of state. We live in NC. Staying in Birmingham. What time should I drive in with the wife and kids and what sorts of things might we do for a few hours before the game? Been a few years since we were here, thanks in advance for any advice!

Awesome thanks! Any idea on a lunch spot that won’t have a 2 hour wait?

Also, will they let you bring in empty water battles to fill these days?

I haven’t been in 4 years but I always loved the BBQ nachos next to houndstooth.

I’m bringing my daughter for her first game tomorrow also. They’ll have inflatables on the quad and also the walk of champions will be pretty cool to see. There will also be a volleyball game against auburn at 1. Free admission.

Depending on which direction you are coming from I'd eat lunch in either Birmingham, Columbus, Meridian, etc.
ETA: Just re-read your post. Eat an early lunch in Birmingham, then drive over. You can eat and be in Tuscaloosa by 12:30.

Go downtown and get lunch, probably won’t be too bad with the game at 6:30.
Oyster House
Avenue Pub
Central Mesa
Five
You can park downtown, walk or get one of the golf cart shuttles to take you to the stadium.

I'd hit up Saw's in Avondale (their Sweat Tea Freid Chicken Sandwich is easily one of the best meals in the state) for an early lunch before you leave Bham, or Zazas if it's more of a late breakfast.

Where in Birmingham?
Depending on where, I still would just go to Tuscaloosa by lunch. Traffic from Birmingham will start to get heavy by mid-afternoon. I'd go park somewhere downtown, just park on a street for free, then go hit up one of the restaurants downtown. Quite a few and a variety. Hit or miss on the lines.
You can always just swing by Jimmy John's if you don't want to wait.lol

Yes - they have ‘water monsters’ in several spots that you can use to fill empty bottles. Concession stand prices are pretty outrageous ($8.99 for a souvenir cup coke; $4.50 for a bottle of water that may or may not be cold).
Team loads the bus from the Hotel Capstone about 2 hrs & 15 mins before kick off as they head to the walk of champions. (The hotel is not a bad spot for lunch if you can get there early enough OR after the team leaves). Surrounding churches and Regions bank have had parking spots for sale the first two games ($30).
Here’s a link with lots of Game Day information
Hope you enjoy - let us know how it goes!

Foster Auditorium is a great venue. It was once the site of the longest shot in NCAA basketball history (George Linn)- record has been beaten but it's a great venue and in a great location. I went to Foster all the time as a student. A lot of my classes were in Farrah Hall next door.
Good lord I miss that place

There’s a brass marker in the floor that commemorates the spot where he took the shot

Sports history
Alabama player George Linn made the 84 foot 11 inch shot at the end of the first half. The shot was featured in Sports Illustrated, and is commemorated at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. A brass marker was placed in the gym floor to indicate the location of the shot.

FYI
Alabama Volleyball is in a Year One of a new Head Coach, so.... this year is probably going to be rough.
Auburn is coming in undefeated, HOWEVER don't be too daunted. There's a reason they're still not ranked. They haven't played a single P5 school in their run, so no one really know what to think of them.

Big Bad Wolves or something like that. Use to be my drunken go to on game day weekends. Haven’t had in a decade. I miss those days.

That’s it. I guess I overlooked him saying he was going with his wife and kids. He probably wants something nicer than that.
