McElroy was talking Harsin to Colorado. Any chance of the 2 sides working something out with a reduced buyout and us letting him "resign" to take another job?

OK. So I have read over 100 pages of comments. I have read all kinds of names on here. So there are a ton of pros and cons thrown out.

So far the top names being thrown out are (no order):

Lane
Freeze
Prime
Aranda
others

So everyone talks about negative recruiting against AU. We have all heard it and some have seen evidence of it. i.e. No linemen in the NFL (HS Scheme). Some may or may not be true. So for those of you who have your jockey...how would you negative recruit against the above list or candidates of your choice. I think that would be interesting instead of repeating the same pro v cons. I don't have a top person in my mind.

Curt Cignetti - he’s won everywhere he’s been head Coach, has James Madison ranked, and was Alabama’s recruiting coordinator for the 2008 class, which is probably the best of all time.

Send Harsin packing right now, and make Cadillac the interim coach. Don't make any of Harsin's potato boys the interim coach, because they're all eventually gonna be out the door too. I'm not optimistic enough for a big splash hire at HC, so no harm no foul in seeing if Caddy has any potential in these remaining games....and after what we've witnessed up to this point, things couldn't possibly get worse than they already are, so why the hell not...

Good news:

Fans and members of this message board will not be making the hire.

Bad news:

Auburn board of trustees will be making the hire.

Fact #1 - the only candidates that would fit all of the best criteria would be Saban and Dabo and Kirby. (Champions with SEC proven recruiting)

Fact #2 - none of those guys will be leaving their jobs.

Fact #3 - you have to take a chance on the guy you hire in one area and hope he fits. You decide which negative you can live with.

Ethics and media assault? Hire Freeze or Urban.
Lack of Division 1 experience? Hire Neon or Grimes.
Lack of Division 1 success?
Hire Muschamp or Steele or Lashlee or Kiffin.
Lack of success in the NFL and no SEC recruiting ties? Hire Rhule.

Personally, Rhule is the 1st name I have been excited about. If we could fire Harsin and announce him a week later - it would help recruiting quickly.

He is so qualified, I am also certain we can’t hire him.

I'm "send Bruce to recruit Kiffin and name your price". Once Hartwell is brought on board.

Good Deion interview:
Deion Interview

There are several good HC candidates available right now. Feeling optimistic about how this will turn out.

I posted this in another thread but probably fits better here:

We really need to start a “Stop the Steele” campaign before we hire Hugh Freeze. Dude is a mediocre coach and a PR nightmare for the program. On top of banging prostitutes and cheating his arse off in recruiting, he was a creep to female high school students.

This article will be shared a million times after he is hired and I would bet that many other female students will come out and tell similar stories.

AL.com Freeze is a creep

Today's guesses/feelings:

Name dropping Grimes and not firing Harsin is an effort to keep all focus off Kiffin.

After viewing a few youtube videos and forming a rock solid impression of President Roberts, I see him as much too straight laced to want to be associated with Hugh Freeze and his past (easier to ignore a few Kiffin rumors).

If we don't jump on Kiffin, he'll just be at a place like Florida coming years.

All subject to change with daily internet rumors.

Two names have directly produced quality (if not outstanding) QB play in the SEC and are perfectly clear on what it takes to win the SEC.

Those are the names you go after.

Assistants to interview if we don't go after Kiffin or Freeze:

Dell McGee
Will Muschamp - 3rd time's a charm? At least he would build a roster.

Charles Kelly

No assistants without extensive SEC championship program experience. (For today, anyways)

Dye was successful because he learned from Bear Bryant.
Kirby is successful because he learned from Saban.

The insider/fan on the On3 youtube show brought up Matt Rhule as a best guess / possibility.
He did give good evidence that he seems to be of the 3 and 4 star and then develop school of roster management. That’s a big no from me. He was at Baylor though.

More, and more, if Freeze is a no go, it’s Muschamp. He had to clean up for Urban and Dabo’s luckily getting generational QBs made SC an impossible situation. Come on , get on board. Let’s go recruit.
Of course he won’t be considered but his success odds would be as good as anyone’s.

Thinking optimistically (as in "we have the hires ready to go"), what are some possible ADs and coaches that have tie ins to each other? - the more random the better.

How about giving serious consideration to Coach Dave Aranda? He is presently the winning head coach at Baylor. Coach Aranda will be successful at AU as he is young, energetic and proven.

James Franklin is a complete "no go" right?
I need some reassurance.

The current vibe of the Pres and AD says this wouldn't happen, but you know James Franklin is now trying to reset his clock (as they now say), hard.

Can't fully trust the Pres and AD yet. Although I love the Pres's actions so far.

Freeze with Charles Kelly, Travaris Robinson, and Joe Joe Whitt on defense would kill it.
