Here's a link to the play; why talk in vague generalities when its all on video ?
LINK
Go to the 1:03 mark, where Young is flopping around like a fish, literally arse over head, yet supposedly isn't down. That's the part where two Texas players - already moving in that direction - run past him. Neither initiates any kind of hit. One makes contact with America's Favorite Floppers legs - again, all incidental. He even tries to avoid more contact.
It's a safety. Its an awful call. Why try to make an arse of yourself justifying it ? It was a gift, and every team in the country would take it if given. But to say it wasn't a gift is just ludicrous.

If he was down as you said, then Alabama got screwed because it should have been a late hit/roughing the passer resulting in Alabama getting the ball 1st and 10 at the 18 yard line.
Seriously? roughing the passer. In the past two game Bama has injured three of four Texas’ quarterbacks, and you wanna go there?

You know what pisses me off the most ? I've spent measurable minutes today defending the damn Longhorns. That bothers me.

Me too, but I hate seeing a team that played their asses off get screwed by the mental gymnastics it took to call that play an incomplete pass. That officiating crew should be mowing their lawns on Saturdays instead of determining the outcome of college football games.

Left ankle is clearly down. Safety

Any Bama fans care to argue that his leg isn't down here?

Good Lord. This is getting tedious. Its like somebody that wants to debate the meaning of the word "is". Here's a link; LINK You can see, at the 1:00 mark, Young be down with his non-throwing arm before he slings the football with no idea of a target. It was a safety. Any non-biased viewer would call it a safety. It takes mounds of arguments and twisted logic to call it something different than a safety. Its the Tuck Rule on roids.
I understand your argument. I really do. But in your evidence above damaged, eternal Alabama hater Joel Klatt, who was breathlessly and desperately cheering for Texas all day, clearly instructs us that he was NOT down due to the ankle at the 1:30 mark. So we must account for Mr Klatt’s opinion.

Bama runs the SEC and Texas had to learn on their own field before they get to the SEC who runs this conference and to get in line.

Eta: I don't see how his foot would be at that angle if his lower leg wasn't touching the ground.
At the end of the day, though, I dgaf because I hate Texas and I'm glad they lost.
So Alabama got screwed on the play, because it should have been a late hit and roughing the passer.
See #0 and how far away he is? And yet he still hits Young and half rips his helmet off.
Should have been Alabama ball, 1st and 10 on the 19. Instead, Alabama had to punt.
Funny that the play that everyone is saying Texas got screwed on is actually a play Alabama got screwed on.

This gets old as well. Watch the play. If its that frigging debatable, what the meaning of "down" is ... how do you throw a flag for two players rushing in to clean up the play ? Come on. They didn't lead with a helmet. They didn't "lead" with anything. They came in and pretty much fell on Young, and not even with their full weight. If THAT'S roughing the passer, then you can't touch the passer.
And its not an if. Watch the video. Young was down, not once, but twice.
The refs botched it. 'Bama benefited from it. There is no need, absolutely none, for all this perverse bullshite to try and justify it. It was an egregious, awful officiating call. Pure and simple.
Based on the image of Bryce being down that I just saw, Alabama got screwed on the call.
It should have been roughing the passer. #0 is a full 7 yards away when Bryce is down, and yet still manages to hit him and half rip Bryces helmet off.

They showed heart. It is a moral victory, which is still an L. But if that was Kentucky out there taking 'Bama to the wire, I'd be pleased with the effort in a loss as well.
And it really does aggravate me. Bad calls happen in every game. Sometimes really shite calls. The "can't let the refs decide the game" smooth brains get on my nerves. Sometimes the refs do decide a game.
And sometimes, they just screw the pooch on a play. Like the play in conversation. It was a shite call. Call it shite.
Kentucky got a gift on a roughing call against FLA last night. It was a shite call. I'll call it a shite call. But I'll take it. Won't try to say it was a good call, though. It was a shite call.

One of your other respondents claimed that if he was down then it is Bama ball 1st and 10 due to a late hit. I believe that ruling would be a dead ball personal foul and at worst UT penalized on the kick.
That would be correct.

So you think #0 hitting Bryce young who is 7 yards away at the moment Bryce is down doesn't fall into the category of roughing the passer?

It's not a turnover where the ball exchanges hands during the play.
I'm not 100% sure on the rule here, but they certainly weren't thinking that during the review yesterday when it was initially a roughing call.

Yeah. They didn't "hit" him. They were already in motion, and the dude that got flagged even went as far as to try and minimize contact.
But hey ... you admit he was down ? Then its a safety. Or was he not down, and the kids were doing what every kid is taught ... play through the whistle.
Come on. It was a football play. In real time, nobody did anything wrong. Young did something stupid - trying to fling the ball to avoid a sack where he'd already been tackled.
And here are all you Internet Rules Scholars trying to justify it. Just take the gift, gumps. You got lucky on a shitty officiating decision. Stop trying to polish a turd.

And so did Texas last night, but those don't fit the narrative so we'll all just play pretend.

He is 7 yards away when Bryce is down. You sit here and you try to pass yourself off as impartial, and then you at the same time claim a guy who is 7 yards away when the player is down and still manages to hit him to the point of half ripping the QB's helmet off is trying to minimize contact.

You would be better off ignoring this irrelevant babble. The play was the tackling of Alabama's QB....nothing more. The officials blew it, Texas got hosed and Alabama benefitted from their incompetence. End of story.
