Will Anderson didn't know that when the ball carrier falls; he is essentially down?

Is that what al.com is saying? I could MAYBE understand if he was a Freshman in his second game but how the hell do you NOT know that rule in CFB?

quote:

Perhaps most surprising were the slip-ups by Will Anderson Jr. The Tide’s best defensive talent “played well,” per Saban, but also had uncharacteristic mistakes. He lined up offside twice. And in the second half, Anderson learned that when a ball carrier falls, he’s essentially tackled. Anderson got an education in real-time when he shoved running back Ja’Tavion Sanders after Sanders tripped.

Anderson threw his hands up in confusion once he saw the yellow cloth fly out of the referee’s hand. Meanwhile, Henry To’oto’o grabbed his helmet.

“Just being not locked in. Just trying to anticipate too much. ... I didn’t know about (the rule) yet,” Anderson said, citing Texas as the “hardest game” he’s been a part of. “I didn’t think it was applied to college football. That’s on me.”

That is some scary stuff. I could understand if he said he just reacted too quickly.

This is why these players need coaches. Just because they have NIL and get media hype doesn’t translate to results.

He’s not stupid so not sure why he’d come up with an excuse that makes him look stupid. Just say you effed up and will be better for it down the road.

Yeah better answer would have just been the truth. I was frustrated and wanted to finish the play and I let my frustration get the better of me.

Very strange for him not to know that rule; an accomplished & smart Jr player like him.
You play College Football day in& out and you know Pro rules better than College rules? Doesn’t compute.

No way he doesn’t know the rule, right? It’s not the NFL, my man.

He's obviously lying. He's been playing for three years and knows the rule. He let his frustration get the better of him and came up with a lame excuse to avoid saying that the Texas offense was in his head.

If this is true and he didn't know... Then, our coaches suck.

Bad look for you Will. You had 4 penalties on you and ALL were because of a lack of discipline. One of them kept a TX drive alive after a crucial 3rd down stop.

Admit you fricked up and didn't play your best game but will learn from it.

That's the rule in the NFL. Not in college.

Will knew the rule, there is no reason for him not too. It's a rule he's played under his entire football life. I don't know why he said something like that.
