Can someone explain it to me like I’m five the clock rules at the end?

I keep reading shite that the refs blew it and gave LSU one last play. I’ve also heard people say there should’ve been a 10 second run off
It was a first down so I guess I assume they spot the ball and would’ve had one more play. I don’t understand why there would be a 10 second runoff?

The clock should have started on the spot of the ball. But Norvell challenged the play so it's all pretty much moot.

It was a first down so it stopped the clock to move the chains.

FSU called a TO so the clock stopped

If the official would have correctly called the runner down in bounds with 1-2 seconds left the clock would have stopped briefly until ball/chains were spotted and then it would have started. No way LSU gets a another play off in that situation. FSU would have not had to call a timeout if the officials didn’t get it wrong. In the end they correctly stopped the clock completely because FSU used that timeout due to the officials frick up. The officials missing the call gave LSU another down which they took advantage of and then still blew it in epic fashion anyway.

You should make some more predictions, you’re really good at them

Refs did not blow it, but it was very lucky for LSU.
If the player had been called down, they would have had one second from the placement of the ball to get a play off. No time to spike. Good luck.
Because he was called out, the clock stopped. Since it stopped for the review, it would start again at the placement in play, giving LSU time to set up. But then FSU called timeout, meaning the clock started at the snap.

Just another way Norvell tried to gift wrap that game and give it to Kelly. But Kelly kept refusing the gift.
I get calling the timeout to have the play reviewed but once it was reviewed and the call reversed, shouldn’t the ball have been placed down and whistled ready for play? In that scenario, LSU would have been lucky to get a play off and it would have been a hurried attempt anyway. A play that FSU should have been ready for since they had the review timeout to prepare.
And secondly, where the frick was the replay booth who should have been buzzing down to stop play for the review without FSU calling the timeout?
Throughout this glorious first weekend of college football, I have seen countless blown calls by officials, most of them blatantly obvious errors. Officiating is only getting worse which is sad since these asshats are affecting the outcome of games more often than they care to admit.

This is correct. The red that was less than five yards behind the play is the one who buffed it pretty good. Outside of that miss on a bang bang play the refs did it correctly.

I thought the call was correct. Knee down with the ball being out of bounds. Earlier in the games and Daniel’s slid for the first but he was clearly marked down from the point of the ball and knee being behind the first down marker. Referees have a tough job, they miss some but a lot of the time they are correct. FSU was the better team and out played us for 50 minutes of the game.

Wrong call on the field forcing a challenge. Should have been a ref spotting the ball, darting out of the way for a rushed 1 second play, not an untimed down.

quote:What happened would have happened either way. The play was ruled out of bounds so stop the clock. Challenge reversed the call but still, you get the 1 second because of the challenge. I think what it did though, was to give LSU time to think where had the call stood without a challenge, qb would have to think really quickly to get a workable play off. Just my observation. More curious as to why FSU was in a prevent once LSU got to their own 30-40. Prevent defenses prevent you from winning in most cases.

FSU called a timeout because they didn’t have the right personnel for the goal line. I don’t think Norvell knew the runners knee was down. 2 dumb coaches.

It was week one for the officials, too. They will get better as the season progresses.

Whatever it was, it took too damn long. I was ready to go bed. Almost 4 hour ballgame. They are going to have to do something about that or people are going to start watching the 2nd only and advertisers will know that.
