This is a table of teams' under-/over-ratedness over the span 1989 to present. Teams are sorted by total rating, with the most underrated teams at the top. Only teams rated in at least fifteen different seasons (approximately half of the years) appear in this table. Additional notes on the table's contents follow the table.
quote:
The teams at the top of the table were the most underrated (final poll standing furthest above preseason poll standing) over the span 1989-present. The teams at the bottom of the list were the most overrated (final poll standing furthest below preseason poll standing) over the span 1989-present.

Note: These numbers do not really reflect how good the teams are; they instead reflect how well they lived up to preseason expectations.

Leave it to the Faggies to print another cup to this stat. What’s wrong with you pussys? This is the dumbest shite ever.

I am in no way bragging about Texas A&Ms position. If you can read the numbers correctly you’ll see they point to us being overrated.

Sorry you don’t like stats and that facts hurt your feelings.

Since many posters here have a reading deficiency (rooted in attention deficit disorder) in terms of being able to go past the first paragraph, the note at the end of the article is most important and approp.....
Note: These numbers do not really reflect how good the teams are; they instead reflect how well they lived up to preseason expectations. Any Big West member would have a score of zero (since they never had a team ranked in preseason or final polls during this span) but that would not mean each of those teams are stronger than the ones (such as Nebraska) which ended up with negative numbers in this list.

I thought this was pretty self explanatory if you know how preseason/postseason rankings work and/or have an IQ above 40. I forgot a lot of posters on here do not. I'll edit to include that.

Agreed. Now we can start the “UGA is no better than Auburn” mantra.
Happy?

Were we getting some serious preseason love in the 90s or something? Honestly surprised by this.

The problem with a list like this is that unranked preseason teams can only move up (positive).
I doubt the rankings are extrapolating if a top 35 team finishes around 100.
It is only throwing positives when the top 35 team finishes ranked 18th.
It is extremely impressive what Bama has done. To start preseason top 4 leaves so little room for error to avoid a negative score. What helps them in a scenario going back to 1989 is having a few bad coaches sparsed in there which could boost big positives for a season (or 2) such as 2008 starting at #24 in the AP and finishing 6th.
Or 1991 going from #22 preseason up to #5.

And Alabama's no better than TCU mantra...happy?

Thank you, Mike Archer.
He had a particularly dubious start to this with being highly ranked to start 1989 and immediately greeting that with allowing Larry Horton (?) to return the season opening kickoff for a TD against us in college station. I was there.

Given the past 17 years, happy beyond words can describe.

The bottom of this list is spot fricking on. I hate Auburn, and the fact that they were left out of the Title game in 2003-2004 just goes to show the bias of the teams listed above. It wasn't until 2007 when it took a mass movement to get Florida in to the BCS title game over a rematch of Michigan and Ohio State that the above teams could finally be exposed and shoved to the side for the superior teams from the SEC.

Too funny, OP posts an interesting topic on a chat board to promote chat… and you melt.
I guess that makes you the limp wristed pussy.
Maybe you should find the elementary schools chat board from which you graduated and post there.

Of course, the top tier of this stat would be mid-major teams or teams that are perennial under-achievers.
An interesting take on things, but pretty much a meaningless stat.

I’m not sure how this diagram works when say UGA would be -3.5 in 2017. They started the year in the teens and finished #2?
