Worst NIL take I’ve heard yet

Andre Ware on CFB Live just suggested that any money made by players off NIL should have to sit in an account untouched until they earn a degree. And if they don’t earn a degree it should just sit there…
Please tell me I’m not the only one that thinks this is a terrible opinion

I don't fully agree with this as presented, but I do think some kind of delayed earning system would be beneficial.
ETA: if we're talking ACTUAL "name, image, likeness" then yeah it's dumb. if htey did a commercial for a local restaurant, let them collect whatever was promised of them. If we're talking the *wink wink* NIL *wink wink* where schools are giving millions to recruits that haven't played a down yet, then yeah delay the payments til they earn it.

I wouldn’t be opposed to NIL only being allowed for either spring semester freshman or sophomores. I think that could help slow down the pay for play. Just not sure if you can legally uphold that.

A degree has singular value to the owner of said degree.
The whole reason driving this "pay for play" is because money is divisible and can be divided for the profit of agents, lawyers, fat little girlfriends, and a whole collection of social leeches.
I think keeping the money till a degree is obtained is probably the best for the actual player but bad for all the cling on's

Yea who benefits from that? It doesn’t help competitive balance nor the players
So much could be fixed if they just brought the 1 year transfer sit out rule back. Jordan Addison might still be at Pitt, Caleb Williams might still be at OU, etc.

I’m sure Andre wouldn’t mind waiting 3 or 4 years to receive the money he makes this year.

You should at least have to be on campus prior to getting paid.

I like the idea, make it more about student-athletes than minor league pros.

That was the popular argument 10 years ago for paying players.
The idea of 17 and 18 year olds bringing take home $6k/month scares a lot of people. It kind of should.
Personally, I didn't have a head on my shoulders until I was 25.
