GPA can be greatly manipulated from student to student and from school to school. Standardized testing, not so much.

Yeah everyone knows which AP classes are the easiest. A 4.5 GPA is nothing special these days.

I am from the dinosaur era where they actually taught things like reading, writing, and math. You had Latin for 2 - 4 years which taught you words and word roots (still helpful today). You got Classical History, Modern History, and State History. You were taught a broad range of studies which broadened your mind. You had sports coaches who would be in jail for pushing you hard as they could.
Now we have the "everybody gets a ribbon" and classes in useless stuff that will not produce the leaders we will need tomorrow. Say what you will about the Chinese and the Indians but they still value strong education as a cultural value.
