Alabama should play their yearly lower tier FCS opponents at the new Birmingham stadium.

It would at least generate some excitement for these boring arse games.
Saban wouldn't have to worry about an empty student section since the game won't be in Tuscaloosa. That accounts for at least 20,000 seats right there.
That 50,000 seat stadium would be filled with the most diehard Alabama fans for an otherwise uneventful game.
There's also that nostalgic feeling of playing in Birmingham for the older Bama fans. Stop and get you some Milo's on the way home.
Plus the SEC headquarters is right across the street. They can save money on their Brink's truck.

Not a horrible idea for bama.

As an adult I’d love it. As a student, I’d hate losing a home gameday
Since we are doing 2 for 1 series with Group of 5 schools, I don’t see much of a downside in doing one versus UAB

We do this exact thing with Little Rock and it sucks. It's taken decades to finally quit doing it

Nobody really misses playing in Birmingham.

The difference is that stadium in Little Rock sucks and is 3 or 4 hours from campus. Plus the new Birmingham stadium has a lot of cool stuff around it.

Saban: “we should be playing more in state schools more often.”
Yeah Nick, we want to see Bama beat up on pissant teams like USA, AUM, and Troy.

As opposed to New Mexico State or North Texas?

For you, is it not slightly more interesting when UF plays FAU or South Florida as opposed to some out of state scrubs?

Would be nice preparation for the post-Saban era of Bama football.

How many students have showed up for lower tiered opponents in recent years? Aren't we constantly bitching about their lack of participation in 11:00 games against Austin-Peay and similar opponents? At least if the game was held in Birmingham the stadium would be filled by people who actually want to go to the games.

Yeah that’s exactly why we put a billion dollars into Bryant Denny so we could play in Birmingham again.
Come on football season and hurry!

How much are they really making off these games after they give away a bunch of tickets to the Boy Scouts?

Like I said I’d love it as someone who has graduated. But even if you’re not going to the game, gameday in Tuscaloosa as a student is amazing

Giving up selling 90-95K tickets to sell 47K tickets on 1 of 7/8 home games is never happening.

That’s the only time that stadium would ever be filled, and would cost the University & city of Tuscaloosa a shite ton of money.

We literally did this for 3 years after moving Tennessee/Auburn to Tuscaloosa (and after stopping any SEC games there cough Vanderbilt cough).
2001 - UTEP
2002 - MTSU
2003 - South Florida
There was a reason we stopped.

That’s UAB’s stadium. Alabama plays at home in Tuscaloosa.

It's not really about the stadium itself. The situation has a lot more similarities than differences, but go ahead and try it

Yes, but money aside (which is impossible I know), it would be cool to see some games in Birmingham. I mean that was the home of the 1st SEC Championship game.
It was a really cool feeling as a kid driving south on 65 and seeing the stadium all lit up and then getting home and watching the game, knowing you just drove by the stadium where THE IRON BOWL was being played.
