Now that EVERYONE is in full agreement that college sports is about money and athletic competition and not academics (in the least) it's time the SEC dump Vanderbilt. Candy is competitive in one sport, baseball and only because they've been able to fully fund while everyone else remained at roughly 1/3.

shite can Vanderbilt.

Vandy keeps everything private. Having one Private school in the conference keeps the FOI people away. That's why every conference has at least one. Big 10 has Northwestern. Big 12 has Baylor. Pac 10 has Standford and USC.

The SEC is not going to dump a charter member. Keep dreaming.

But it still is about academics. USC wasn't ever going to park their football team in the SEC. It was always going to be the B1G or stay in the PAC.

The BTAA is why Notre Dame, UVA, UNC, Oregon, Washington and Stanford will always wait on the B1G regardless of the SEC 's football dominance. That $10 billion BTAA is way more important to them than just a football TV contract.

When folks were downright proud about paying the coach multi-millions, and building facilities in the hundred million range, how hard was it for some people to still believe it wasn't about money and winning ?

It hasn't been about academics for a long, long time. It's semi-pro football. It's fun because the names change, and it's grafted onto regions that don't have pro sports. But it's semi-pro football.

Now - the money doesn't just go to the coach or the contractors building the facilities. That's all that's changed. Well, that, and maybe the cold shock of reality for some that this isn't "student athletes".

If it was, the team with the best GPA would get the option at the coin toss.

They've actually produced a national title in one of the Big 3 sports (Football, Basketball, Baseball) in the 21st century.

They've contributed much more in terms of athletic achievement in the past 20 years than the voLs
