Haynes just delivers the ball late too often. Some QBs are better at the timing and get rid of the ball at the right time. See the play being developed. Weigman is great at this and also just has a cannon which also helps.

Makes all the difference playing SEC defenses.

Mizzou just brought in Jack Abraham on a transfer so I'm guessing he's the prohibitive favorite. If not him then Brady Cook who started the bowl game against Army.

The new freshman Sam Horn is supposed to be outstanding but I can't see a true freshman starting the first game with only the summer to prepare.

In short, our QB play will probably be awful-to-mediocre

No clue, we have two guys who are tied, and Horn who is likely the best of the bunch hasn't decided if he'll go pro in baseball yet.

If Max can be an effective game manager, he'll be a significant upgrade for us over last season. We have enough talent around him to make things happen if the QB can just get the ball to them and let them do their thing.

A dependable game manager at QB for A&M last year probably gets us 2 more wins. Our offense was a flat out liability when bad-Calzada came to play last year.

As for A&M's opening game QB, I agree it's probably Max. With the better of King/Weigman getting significant time in 3rd & 4th quarters when game isn't on the line to get their feet wet.

My hope is that King or Weigman gets comfortable enough to take over the starting job from Max by the time we get to the meat of our conference schedule.

His biggest issue is holding onto the ball too long and taking stupid sacks. If A&M has a solid o-line in front of him and receivers that can get YAC he'll be a good game manager. If he gets pressured early and often it's game over.

Cook more likely. Abraham didn't even get a schollie if I remember right.

Really? So, week to week open comp? Seems like that would lead to 3 sullen QBs.

Can't have 3 starting QBs.

1 will take over as starter
1 will transfer
Hopefully the third will agree to stick around as a backup

Max is the most limited in overall skillset, and has the least amount of eligibility remaining. Him solidifying himself as the starter is the least desirable outcome for the A&M program.

It is what it is.

I think Jimbo brought in Max so he didn't have to rely on Haynes until Weigman was ready. I could be completely wrong though. As stupid as it sounds, the guy I picked to be the starter is the one I'm least excited about.

That is a pretty solid and fair assessment. If I were an Aggie, the one thing about Johnson that would excite me is while he seems to need better than average protection, when he gets it, he is damn good. Of course, in the SEC that's a big ask for any o-line and he just never consistently had it here.

I’m starting to think that there’s a real shot that nuss starts against Florida state. Our oc loves a qb that can move and he’s got that ability. Jayden is faster but has a long way to go with his footwork before he’s ready. They changed up his footwork as soon as he got to lsu and that makes a big difference once it’s mastered.this spring He wasn’t where he should be in the fall.

Brennan is probably the starter week one but nuss could definitely take it and we didn’t think that was the case until this spring when ge was the best in the game and had some great practices and scrimmages.

I think Daniels is gonna be at lsu for two years and will get some work to set up next year pnce Brennan is gone. If nuss starts then he’s screwed because he’s used his one free transfer and won’t start another game

3.5 sacks

Those certainly aren't terrible numbers

If that # is correct, he would be among the most sacked QBs over 13 games. (Or even 12)

I’d prefer Weizmann… let him take some lumps this year and be ready to show out in 23.

I'll be the one guy to say it. Jimbo brought Max in 90% for his tight end younger brother, 5% as insurance in case neither of his other qbs are ready, and 5% to spite LSU. Max, while not horrible, isn't exactly a world beater either. He has the ability to put good touch on short to intermediate throws, but lacks an arm to throw great long balls. He also shows less than great awareness in pocket and tends to take too long to decide where/when to throw the ball. It's not like he's an idiot, but I wouldn't say that I expect him to be the starter.

I think Max Johnson is the week 1 starter

Boy, we all hope so. Kid is solid enough but christ he holds onto the ball like it's superglued to his hand, and he has horse blinders on and concrete feet.
