We know teams like Bama w Young or Arky w Jefferson.

For others, who do you see getting your team's QB1 slot

I think Brennan, but I have no clue.

I think Max Johnson is the week 1 starter and I think A&M will go 9-3 as a result. Max will play fine but the defense will need some time to recover from losing the DC and key players on the line. Max is the second or third lowest ceiling QB on the team but the highest floor by far.

If Weigman or Haynes King are the week 1 starter I see A&M going anywhere between 8-4 and 11-1 as possibilities because if they are starting over Max then Jimbo sees potential but they might have some growing pains.

Don't you mean 8-3 or 7-3? I'm sure Aggie will cancel a game or two over [insert any reason here].

Still I'mma go with 6-5 (sorry W/L record plus a canceled game).

Johnson is a serviceable starter. Nothing he does wows you, but he’s not terrible.

What's the deal w Haynes? Was he simply a lot better at Longview playing HS defenses and can't translate up to D1?

He really only had one game against a garbage opponent, I don't think we learned enough about him before his injury to know if he can handle college ball.

I think Jimbo brought in Max so he didn't have to rely on Haynes until Weigman was ready. I could be completely wrong though. As stupid as it sounds, the guy I picked to be the starter is the one I'm least excited about.

I feel like AU's QB competition is truly wide open going into fall. Unfortunately "wide open" also describes the OL behind which the eventual starter will have to work.

If I had to guess I'd go with Calzada, because I don't think he would have transferred if he didn't think he would start. Ashford (Oregon xfer) and Finley will fight it out for backup, and Geriner will redshirt.

In any case it promises to be a long year.

I’m interested to hear about Rattler and Jayden Daniels. Bama seems to have a pretty heated battle for backup qb

It seems like LSU is truly wide open.

A lot of people assumed it'd come down to Brennan vs Daniels but Daniels looked meh in the spring and Nussmeier looked much improved so I'd say it's a true three man race at this point.

I'd say probably Brennan with some specific packages for Daniels at this point.

Just a quick thank you for normal football talk with normal replies. It’s refreshing.

Calzada requires a well above par OL and smart play calling to keep him from freaking out. How are you feeling about the line at this point

Any OU fans pulling for General Booty to get the starting job? Dude has a top tier sports name all-time

Insider boards at A&M have no idea who the starter will be, and there are differing opinions depending on who you talk to. It could be King, Johnson, or even Weigman.

Mond 2.0

We need King somewhere on the field. We can't waste that speed.

Eh, I'm not so sure about that. Against P5 opponents last season (excluding the Arkansas game where he barely played), his numbers were:

UCLA 26/46 330 yards 3 TDs 1 INT, 2 sacks
MS State 17/27 280 yards 4 TDs 1 INT, 2 sacks
Auburn 26/46 325 yards 1 TD 1 INT, 3 sacks
Kentucky 22/38 261 yards 1 TD 1 INT, 4 sacks
Florida 14/24 133 yards 3 TDs 0 INT, 1 sack
Ole Miss 13/21 146 yards 0 TDs 1 INT, 5 sacks
Alabama 16/32 160 yards 2 TDs 1 INT, 5 sacks
Texas A&M 22/38 306 yards 3 TDs 0 INT, 6 sacks

Average: 19/34 (55.9%), 242 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT, 7.13 ypa, 3.5 sacks

Those certainly aren't terrible numbers, but I wouldn't call his averages his floor either.

I admittedly don't know what A&M has in the running game or OL, but Johnson's ceiling would be nothing more than a game manager at A&M, same as had he stayed at LSU. I don't know if his floor is worse than what Haynes King or Weigman would provide. The problem with Johnson is he is just physically limited in what he can do with below average arm strength and pretty average mobility. For him to be successful, he needs a lot of help from the team around him, which obviously didn't happen for him the past season and a half where he was starting for LSU. And with the offense Jimbo runs, I'm just not sure he'd be the guy I'd want starting as Johnson was at his best when he was improvising. Jimbo runs much more of a pro-style offense than anything he did at LSU, which, to me, wouldn't give me a lot of confidence with Max winning 9-10 games. To be completely honest, he wouldn't even be as productive as Mond was.

Our OC specifically said that he prefers a mobile QB. Add that to how much Brian Kelly was gushing about Jayden Daniels, I believe he will take the first snap vs FSU.

I guess my floor for Max is higher because he's proven himself against SEC defenses, you know what he is. Haynes is an unknown and so is Weigman so to me their floor is complete bust until proven otherwise.
