Rutgers defensive line coach Marquise Watson knows a thing or two about the premier college football conferences. The former Ole Miss assistant joined Greg Schiano’s staff in 2022 as the defensive line coach after spending time with the Rebels under Lane Kiffin as an analyst for two seasons. It’s Watson’s second overall season at Rutgers after previously coaching as an assistant in 2018 under former head coach Chris Ash.

But it was the quality of football that caught his attention, at least when it came to the Big Ten. In fact, Watson said the Big Ten was a more elite conference than the SEC, after working in both conferences.
Not to ruffle any feathers, but Watson sees a whole new ball game in the Big Ten compared to what he saw in the SEC.
quote:
"At Ole Miss, I learned a lot from coach Kiffin," Watson said during Rutgers’ spring practice sessions. "Both coach Kiffins — coach Monte Kiffin and coach Lane Kiffin — and I learned how to recruit, and recruit at the highest level. I think the SEC is high, but I think the Big Ten is the highest. And I learned a lot."

Rutgers could be on the rise within the Big Ten since Schiano’s return to the program. While he’s 8-14 in the last two seasons, Rutgers received a surprise Gator Bowl invite, a loss to Wake Forest, at the end of the year. Going into 2022, Rutgers acquired some intriguing transfers and pulled in the No. 33 overall recruiting class in 2022, per the 247Sports Composite.

He has nothing to back up his statements. No data, no championships, no draft numbers, no nothing. Have fun at Rutgers, coach.

- less talented recruits in total and spread across teams
- less NFL players in total and spread across teams
- lower drafted NFL players in total and spread across teams
- less success nationally
- less success across spread across conference teams
I mean, other than that, he's definitely on to something.

Well yeah, the guy's an assistant for a Big 10 team so of course he's going to big up his conference over the SEC and other conferences.

This is somehow Texas A&M’s fault. They forfeited and allowed Rutgers a bowl spot.

You haven't spent 3 weeks of spring camp at a school that went 5-8 last year though.

At least make it somewhat believable

Well he is coaching under the rant's favorite coach ever. Maybe he instilled the same confidence in this young man that he did yall when tennessee didn't hire him.

They are one "Ohio State" away from being the ACC. I'll never forget the B1G Champion Michigan State that Bama sacrificed in the Cotton Bowl Playoff. They would have finished 5th in the SEC West that year

The last two years have been the perfect microcosm of the SEC vs Big Ten.
2020: Bama dominates OSU for the championship
2021: The Big Ten champion was throttled by the loser of the SEC CG.
Bama and Georgia miles ahead of any Big Ten program.
Also, national championships last 20 years:
LSU: 3
Florida: 2
Big Ten: 2

That is right up there with Miami's coach saying the Canes have the best fans in the country.
