Thompson,I presume? My goodness, they have gone from perhaps the state's worst facilities for football (in large school classification) to something half the 1-AA schools would covet.

And what about the shootings (several different times) at the Galleria in Hoover?

I wonder if this is why Josh Niblett moved to the Atlanta suburbs to coach football?

I regularly go to concerts at Saturn and Avondale Brewing and have never looked over my shoulder walking to my car afterwards. Now I’m also not naive enough to think there aren’t bad elements in and around Avondale, and I wouldn’t feel 100% safe parking north of the railroad tracks. But never felt unsafe in the immediate areas around those two venues.

Two completely different "Avondales" seperated by 1Ave N and trains. The Avondale south of the tracks is very nice and emerging. The one north of the tracks is indeed a war zone as we worked there fro 1-1/2 years waiting on a new place to be completed.

Movie theaters, major department stores, quality restaurants and grocery stores, hardware stores, sporting goods, need I go on... Dumbass.

LOL at intentionally moving 25 miles away so that you can go to the local Belk or Lowes and not see a minority. Which is essentially your point.

Your first post that was littered with references to soy and hipsters sounds exactly lke something a 50+ person would say, which to your credit you did admit your age right off the bat. You're simply getting old, as opposed to Birmingham being a big scary thing.

I'm only in my mid-30s, so not really old, but man whenever I go back to visit Athens I see so many new places and things that I just don't understand and wouldn't really think would be enjoyable. But I then realize that Athens is for college kids and the things that appeal to them don't appeal to me as much anymore. One of your criticisms of birmingham is the people that hang around breweries and dog parks and trendy restaurants are'nt your kinda of poeple, which is fine. But it's not a them problem at this point. It's you.

same is basically true about Huntsville. A large percentage that work there live outside the city limits. Just try to travel I-565 at getting off time. Madison, Decatur, Arab, and Hartselle are just a few of the areas where people live and work in Huntsville.

That's not really true. Huntsville is very large geographically and most of those people who work and play in Huntsville, also live in Huntsville. It is primarily the reason why the Huntsville metro area is only a 2 county metro. There is not a ton of people traveling from nearby areas to commute to work such as Birmingham. They mostly already live in Huntsville... It's not a bad thing, honestly. It shows how desirable living in the Huntsville city limit is compared to Birmingham. 2 county metro area compared to 6+.

Housing is short in Huntsville and I also noticed that a lot of people who work for the Government Contractors live just over the border in Tennessee. No State Income Tax ?

The mayor is a young socialist who declared the city a "sanctuary city" when it was cool. He just instituted guaranteed income for single mothers (no employment required).

That guaranteed income is actually from a grant started by Twitter founder Jack Dorsey.

About to bow out of this thread but personally I love Birmingham. The one thing that will eventually make me move out to the is the school systems. Birmingham city schools being elevated would do wonders for the city but I don’t see that changing any time soon. Will likely end up in Homewood which is close enough to downtown.

I've already stated in this thread that Birmingham is a great food city, but your dumb arse went extreme and said it was ranked top 10 in the country without evidence.

I used to live in Alabama and worked in Georgia. I had to pay income tax in Georgia and Alabama. The total of the tax was basically split between the 2 states and it wasn't much more than it would have been had I been paying only Alabama or only Georgia.

Based on everything I posted with links, where would you put it. Since Top 10 is an extreme by your definition, it must be in the 70s or 80s in the country.
