“We have high expectations for Stetson,” Smart said, “but we also have high standards for what we expect Stetson to do in terms of leading our offense, going to class, and doing the right thing.”
You have to tell a 6th year senior starting quarterback to go to class?

he said they expect it, not that they have to beg him to do it.

Going to class is such a basic expectation, especially for THE leader of the team, for CKS to even state that is something they expect of Stetson, it’s not a good look for him. Spin it any way you want, Kirby is publicly calling him out.

I don't know how it all works, maybe he already has his degree so he's in some BS grad degree just to stay eligible and doesn't really care about it, and might be slacking off.

you are way, WAY overthinking such a trivial, coach-speak quote.

Dude had offers from Harvard and Yale, classroom anything is breeze to him.
Thats kirby speaking to the entire team thru the media.
Stets leasership is clearly good based on his teammates actions.

Exactly. This is just a pre-loaded message in Kirby’s brain that he reads off his internal teleprompter at this point.
Kirby is talking more to the team as a whole, and is using his leader to do it. Coaching 101

Pretty sure he already has a degree from Terry in Economics. Imagine he is getting a second major or minor now. You don’t have to tell kids in Terry to go to class.

Graduated in December with an Econ Degeee.

Yea I don’t think he was specifically speaking saying that Stetson doesn’t go to class as much as everyone else I think he was speaking through to the whole team

Stet is 24 years old. He could teach the classes (while drinking his beer).
Stafford was 20 years old in his last UGA game. How crazy is that.

if a coach says he expects his 24 year old graduate QB to go to class, you can be sure that other guys younger than that get the message.
That is coach-speak intended for the younger guys.

From Fibonacci on the Spring Practice thread:
For those that read it, Talk'n Dawgs has a comment up from SoFl more or less confirming that Stet hasn't been holding up to the expectations of a veteran leader (ie. Kirby's comments were specific, not general)... both on the field and in class. Going to be interesting to see how it all shakes out for sure.

Stetson is cocky and has reason to be. He has something like 20 starts under his belt; play-off experience; all that game experience with receivers. 2 of the other guys just have garbage time experience and the other one is straight out of high school. Hopefully Stetson uses all this confidence to take him to the next level.

Are you hoping he works it out and leads us to another natty?

I was pointing out that I thought it was a bad sign that CKS was publicly calling out SBIV and everyone said I was wrong, that he was just using coach speak and was actually directing his comments to the team in general. But SoFl confirms I was right. And, I hope Kirby plays the QB that gives us the best chance to win, just like last year.

This is basically how every off season has set up for Stet, then the season starts and he ends up qb1...
