It's that time again and the Jim Schlossnagle Era is about to fully be underway. First things first, let's catch up on what happened this offseason.
Offseason:
The MLB Draft hit us fairly hard. Our 3 top guys in innings pitched including our Friday starter, Saturday starter, and top bullpen arm. On the offensive side, Will played at an All-American level. Basically, our only stud bat in 2021.
Not only did we such last year, but we lost our top players.
Have no fear, the transfer portal is here. Per D1Baseball, A&M is ranked #5 in the newcomer class.
Here is how D1 Baseball Ranked the top 75 Transfers
3. Micah Dallas, RHP, Texas A&M (Transferred from Texas Tech)
7. Troy Claunch, C, Texas A&M (Transferred from Oregon State)
19. Dylan Rock, OF, Texas A&M (Transferred from UTSA)
22. Jacob Palisch, LHP, Texas A&M (Transferred from Stanford)
26. Trey Dillard, RHP, Texas A&M (Transferred from Missouri)
53. Kole Kaler, INF, Texas A&M (Transferred from Hawaii)
61. Xavier Lovett, RHP, Texas A&M (Transfer from Mississippi State)
Basically, we are going to see a very new team. How that works our... we will find out. Expectations are fairly low.
Preseason:
Preseason Coaches Poll
I won't even bother with the All-SEC Preseason Teams because we aint got no one on em! Same with any preseason top 25s.
In continuing with the managed expectations, D1Baseball previews the SEC. They have 9 teams making regionals. We aren't one of them.
2022 Schedule:
FEB
MAR
APR
MAY
A few thoughts on the schedule. We have a very soft early season. Our OOC weekend series are nothing to write home about. Our big tournament early is far from loaded like Houston or Round Rock. Even the midweek games throughout are "meh" outside of t.u. and DBU. Rice, Houston, & Sam are all coming off down years. Once SEC play kicks into gear our schedule becomes hell. We do avoid UT & UF, but we don't get Mizzou.
Prediction:
Here is my stab how we end up in 2022.
31-21 (13-17)
We'd need to go 18-4 in OOC (assuming a couple gets canceled) then 4 games under .500 in conference. This should put us squarely on the bubble. A good run in Hoover may get us in.

OVERVIEW: A strong recruiter in his own right, new Aggie head coach Jim Schlossnagle wasted no time assembling a stellar staff that includes former LSU recruiting coordinator Nolan Cain, along with one of the nation’s premier pitching coaches in former Oregon State and Arizona coach Nate Yeskie. Taking over in the summer can, many times, set back a program a few years, but the staff did an excellent job of maintaining the freshman class, grabbing some late adds, and especially dominating the transfer portal. Coach Childress was able to build College Station into an “arms factory”, and judging by this group that made it to campus, the transition will still bring a plethora of high level pitchers (as well as position players) moving forward.

Outlook: The Aggies finished last in the SEC West with a 9-21 conference mark in Rob Childress’ final season as head coach, and then brought in Jim Schlossnagle from TCU to infuse some new energy into the program. Schlossnagle and his excellent coaching staff (recruiting dynamo Nolan Cain and premier pitching coach Nate Yeskie) immediately worked to overhaul the roster through the transfer market, and their hard work should pay off with an improved season. Whether they did enough to get A&M back to regionals is an open question, but the potential is clearly there.

We could (should) start the season 15-0.

I don't expect to make regionals.

At least we should have good crowds this year. The out temp bleachers in the OF and down the 3rd baseline again.

It’s baseball. You can’t really just assume victories over lesser programs.
I’ll take 3 weekend series wins (1 sweep) and hopefully win all the midweeks.
That’s put us 14-2 going into SEC play.

Worried about pitching, but the offense is going to be way better. Love the assistant coaches on this staff and will be better than many think as a result

I’m mildly surprised at the order, but fully expected these 3 to make up the weekend rotation.

Excited for some baseball man!

Looks like one of the many changes Schloss is implementing is making the #12 a special # awarded out each season.
A few others:
As mentioned above - Core Values:
Respect, Excellence, Leadership, Loyalty, Integrity and Selfless Service.
We are now "Whoop City".
LINK
Seems like we're diving head first into a more analytical approach.
This twitter profile has some really interesting stuff on exit velo, launch angle, spin, etc.
And it puts out these neat little graphics.

"The number 12 obviously is very near and dear to Texas A&M," Schlossnagle said. "I thought it would be appropriate to only award number 12 to someone who truly defines the core values of our university and Aggie baseball – Respect, Excellence, Leadership, Loyalty, Integrity and Selfless Service. This will be something that we attempt to do each year as we move the program forward.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Rams baseball is in its 163rd season. Beginning as the Rose HIlls, they began playing in 1859, and they lead the NCAA in all-time wins with 4,551. Fordham is coming off a 2021 campaign in which they posted a 24-19 mark, including an 11-9 mark in the Atlantic 10. The squad boasts six position starters and 11 pitchers among their 25 returning lettermen.
Their pitching staff lost All-American Matt Mikulski who was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 2nd round of the MLB Draft. Gabe Karlso (4-2, 5.01 ERA) and Brooks Ey (0-4, 4.99 ERA) will take the ball to the mound to start the first two games. Fordham welcomes back two .300 hitters, including C.J. Vazquez (.312, 15 RBI, 11 SB) and Will Findlay (.300, 12 R, 5 2B). Speedster Jason Coules swiped 22 bags last season on a squad that hit just 15 HR in 43 games.
SERIES NOTES
The Aggies have met on four occasions - all A&M wins in 2019. The Maroon & White opened up the 2019 campaign with a three-game sweep of the Rams, outscoring Fordham 26-7 on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park. The teams also met in an elimination game at the 2019 Morgantown Regional with A&M scoring an 11-2 victory, powered by Hunter Coleman's five RBI.
Jonathan Childress and Joseph Menefee are the only current Aggies to see action against Fordham. Childress started the series finale, working 4.2 innings, yielding one hit on three hits while striking out three. Joseph Menefee was 0-for-1 in a pinch-hit appearance in the Saturday win.

Can’t get the damn game, how y’all watching?

Like 90% of our games, steam on SECN+.
They got a cheap run in the first but Pitching looks good early.

Werner crushed one dead center that somehow stayed in the park. He’s got some big pop in his bat. 1-1.

It looks absolutely packed. I wouldn’t be shocked to see 7k+ in the box.

Even tho I didn’t beg to watch, good to see us starting off right

We cruised to a 13-1 victory. Fordham really crumbled in this one. They looked like a team who hasn’t been able to practice outside. They definitely were not ready for the fans getting on them when they couldn’t throw strikes.
Dettmer looked solid. Looks a ground balls, soft contact, and 7 Ks. He’s not an elite talent with nasty stuff, but it’ll take this kind of performance every Friday.
The ball wasn’t traveling well tonight. We very easily could have had 2 leave the yard and be up 6-1 after the first few innings. Overall I liked what I saw from the offense. Good mix or being patient and aggressive.

I really liked Werner's play. Good base-running, excellent D, and hot bat. Couldn't ask for more. The thing that stood out the most to me, though, was Lovett's one inning pitching. That young'un has some HEAT.
