Harsh reality

Geographically, we are sandwiched between the current two best college football coaches/recruiters in America. We could’ve hired one of them in 2012 but went with Gus Malzahn instead. From a 10,000 foot view, the long term outlook of the program is not going to change much at Auburn until this is no longer the case.
Harsin might turn it around but the recruiting is so inferior to our rivals that’s it’s almost impossible to be competitive for the SEC.

Nah, we aren’t far off now. Settle down. We gonna get recruits. Plus there are more kids out there now and the difference between 4 and 5 star is diminishing a bit

Posted this over on tRant but thought it might be worth mentioning here:
Going into the 2019 season, AU had the 6th highest paid HC in all of college football.
Going into 2022, we’ll have the 6th highest paid HC in the SEC West:
Bama: $9.9 million
LSU: $9.5 million
TAMU: $9 million
Ole Kiff: $7.25 million
Arky: $7.1 million (proposed)
AU: $5.1 million
MSU: $5 million

I think Harsin can be successful and hope that he is. I’m saying from a 10,000 foot view it’s hard to be competitive when you play the top two programs in the country each year and recruit against them.
When Saban leaves alabama it’ll balance things out more

I love the contract stuff. Some people complained for years about Gus’s contract ranking not matching the output.
And now with Harsin it does

What’s the difference between 3 stars and….

There really isn’t any harsh reality here except our fan base is overly exhausting. I love Auburn, but talking about football with fellow fans is just sad now. Nobody wants to allow time for things to be fixed and we all are very much aware of how deep our boosters are in giving any coaches a hard time coming here. The more we grasp the concept of give it time, the better off we will be. Gotta stop acting like the talent we have is enough here, it isn’t and we need time. The dude is literally in year 2 of coaching and needs to settle a staff in, and yes I know he hasn’t had a permanent one yet….. but look at the pressure the man has to hire specifically in the SEC for coaches where honesty anyone can come in and recruit hard if they have the personal drive. Our NIL just opened as well and it’s gonna take time for it to adjust and Auburn people to shut up and buy in. If we want to win, we will have to pay for it. At the end of the day we are an awful fan base because we melt at the slightest minor thing that happens and allow no room for growth. Also, if we fire Harsin there is literally nobody available who could do better.

I disagree - with Tank, Jabari, Kessler leaving for the NFL/NBA this year, we will only have 1 guaranteed 5-star athlete on campus (Suni) and a second 5-star coming-in: Gymnast Olivia Greaves. Maybe, Graba should get a contract extension soon (he also landed yet another borderline 5-star recruit recently).
(Sure, Pearl might sign a 5-star until then but I don't see Harsin signing 5-star recruits)

So about the whole 4 star and 5 star talk…. It doesn’t even matter honestly. Statistically there are more 3 stars in the league than there are 4 and 5 stars. It’s all about player development. So that point means nothing to me.

exhausting? Our fans were there in droves for Gymnastics and Basketball and even minorly so for WBB. We also beat bama in the club sport of hockey. I think you mean exhilirating and rabid which is better than being boring and chill.

It seems to me that with the explosion of the transfer portal, it shouldn’t take as long for a coach to get “his” guys on campus. Ten years ago, I agree—let’s give him at least 4 yrs unless the wheels really come off. But with the portal, he has the ability to increase the talent on his team very quickly, and so that grace period should be shortened.

I disagree. We should just focus on the 4* talent 2 hours around our campus. Auburn always over thinks shite. Have the nicest facilities in the country. Our town is one of the best places to raise a family. That matters. Get local talent. We should consistently win 10 games and make a deep run every 5 years. AU alumni would be happy with that.

No we don't. It's not even close. Why should it take Auburn 4-5 years when it takes others half the time?

I need you to add details on your thoughts if you want a response.

That is because there are so many 3 stars and so few 4 and 5 stars. If you think bama and uga could be what they are now by developing 3 stars, I have some ocean front property to sell you in Arizona.

I know what you’re trying to say but the 5 and 4 stars going to our rivals are going to the NFL.
Tommy Tuberville had me believing that but having highly rated players matter especially when you can develop them.
We have proof all around us.

Read again where I said football specifically. That’s the focus. Other sports are fine and lol to the other guy I could flip your house easily, like I do my others.

It also helped that Bama and Georgia weren't landing 10 5 stars a class at that time, and most of the highly rated recruits were going to UF, USC, Texas, etc. at the time.

Be the best version of ourselves
That's a joke, but I'm not really joking. I want the nicest 87k stadium, I don't want a 100k stadium. I'll be happy if Auburn is the heaviest hitter among that top 12-16 group of football programs. I don't care if people think that's giving up, if people look at Auburn and go "man for a school with 30k kids in semi-rural east Alabama that shares a state with UA, they kick arse" - I'm good w/ that.
