I'm all about SEC contraction back down to 10, eliminate the SEC Championship game, and play 9 conference games....
I knid of like not playing all of the east teams every year?

The teams would get too beat up.
Is Clemson really any different than Arky? What is the gain there?

The SEC is capable of improving Memphis's athletic program through osmosis. They still play good basketball, and have a long-time rivalry in football with Ole Miss.
The success of Louisville's athletics program is really a recent phenomenon.
P.S. -- I don't know, though. Maybe you're right. Louisville does seem like the future, along with USF and UCF.

I say GT should get preference over anyone else in the East.
I appreciate your love of history of the SEC. If Arkansas left the SEC that is the school that should be brought back into the fold. Now, that other school that left around the same time as Georgia Tech can still go to hell.

I don't think any team in the SEC would willingly want to leave. Arkansas is the worst fit to me. Fayetteville is a decidedly midwestern town, its' traditional foes are in the big -12. Clemson or Florida St. seem the best fits if you add - they're a good geographical fit, good fan bases. Nothing will likely happen any time soon, I think. KC.

i agree, Arkansas would be a much more natural fit in the Big 12 Mizzou, the Oklahoma teams, and the Texas teams would be natural rivals. It's weird watching them play teams like Florida, Georgia, etc. on a regular basis.

You wouldn't be able to get one of the established programs to switch, so that just leaves C-USA and Sun Belt. I don't see that adding strength to the conference.
As a Tulane fan (therefore, aware of C-USA), I would have to agree.
TCU, Southern Miss, even Tulane ('98), may have the occassional great season...but adding any of them would not immediately strengthen the SEC.
Even if the C-USA program(s) were competitive as today's Vandy, MSU, Duke, and Northwestern programs, why would the SEC want more of that?

Been there, done that. GT was an original member and bailed, then tried to return but was denied.
Agreed.
As was Tulane. Their joint departure has been discussed to death on previous threads (the proposed Magnolia League, etc.).

But, if the SEC expanded, I'd like to see three teams added, with three five-team divisions (top two division winners meet in SECCG; third division winner automatically becomes SEC#2):
West: Arkansas, Louisiana State, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Tulane
Central: Alabama, Kentucky, Louisville, Tennessee, Vanderbilt
East: Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, South Carolina
I love the idea...but will not hold my breath.
I do feel like the SEC needs to do something.
I know a big SEC/Auburn fan who feels that the SEC should even consider removing themselves from the BCS - and establish their own empire (network(s), championship, media campaigns/sponsorships, scholarship program tie-ins, etc.) - AGAIN, will never happen - just wishful thinking.
