The NCAA is 100% to blame on NIL.

They should have changed with the time 30 years ago.
If they made it legal for players to receive a maximum of say 50k a year this would not have happened. But being so stubborn and worried about meaningless stuff like if a player got a $100 handshake or a loaner car from a dealer or if a player gave a girl a math book. They created this mess.

Why should there be a maximum? Why do you hate the free market? Who brainwashed you into Communism?

Agree- and add unequal enforcement. A system can't rely on honest self-policing when you throw the book at those trying to cooperate. The advantages of telling the NCAA to screw off are so clear it made cheaters out of everyone imo.

They were so interested in keeping the status quo that they fricked around and lost complete control of it. They played prevent and blew it.
They were so inept and so incompetent that they allowed the creation of a situation where the courts were able to dictate the terms of NIL. What was so easy to avoid is now almost impossible to undo.
Big time agents/firms aren't even really representing high school kids yet. If you think it is bad now just wait. The size and scale of this clusterfrick is likely to get much much worse. This is just the beginning to be honest.
Why not create a "union" for high school athletes and do collective bargaining. Courts are going to back it up for sure. There are so many potential off ramps and pitfalls not even being discussed now. Biggest clusterfricks are still to come.

all the players asked for over the years was just a little bit more of a stipend. That's it.
but no. Old farts around college football threw a bitchfit about it and now here we are.

Just wait until some nutjob from the 9th Circus Court rules that the SEC has to subsidize the weaker conferences.

Hey dumbshit. You do realize that the MLB, NBA, and the NFL have salary caps? You do know this right?
Just trying to get some understanding as to how fricking stupid you really are.

I read it as $50K per player per team. This means every player on the team whether they are start or never see the field. Standard maximum of $50K per player.
There are 2 or 3 conversations going on in this thread. Sorry you can't keep up.

You're entire point is very well made.
And this is horrifying....

I am no communist, but there has to be a salary cap on college sports. This is going to get out of hand quickly if no one regulates anything.

I literally responded to you discussing NFL salary caps. It's right there. There was no confusion.

This would be a workable solution. Today's wild-west isn't good for the sport and hopefully is not sustainable.

Not the NCAA's fault that their hand was forced by politicians. You can say that the NCAA should have done something sooner and to a lesser extent, but government could still get involved and have the same outcome.

Other conferences? There will be plenty of teams within the SEC that will need to be subsidized. Either that or separate into two or three different strata of competitiveness, or have several SEC schools drop football altogether.

It is when they appealed to the Supreme Court. Still a head scratcher of a move
