I kind of wonder what he thinks went wrong at Auburn.
Can’t be the players he recruited. He’s using the same ones.
Can’t be the coaches he hires. He’s using the same ones.
Can’t say the boosters meddled if you do the exact same thing at your next school.

No one gives a shite what is happening at UCF. I just wanted little pussy cat to put up those same stellar numbers at UCF as he did at AU and I got my wish. Same big name same little production.
Hopefully this shite goes away after spring I would guess around 60% of the roster will be Harsin guys at that point.

What happened at Troy? Wasn’t it a bad break up? There’s some speculation that he’s going anywhere but back to high school.

Lots of off the field rumors but he was a 5-6 or 5-7 winner every year I think

Arguably the greatest coach in history is across the state, kinda big deal.
Some of you local ignorant Auburn people can’t accept that as an excuse, but it’s certainly a reason for someone to not to do as well as they could have if it was a lesser coach. Would have been able to recruit better and likely beaten Bama more if it was someone else.
Did we think we were going to have a coach that was better then a top 3 coach ever in football?
ETA: I’m no Gus apologist. But the reality is he didn’t do a bad job. He made some bad mistakes certainly. But some people need to realize the reality of a steep uphill battle.

There are lots of recruits around, and we had some really good classes along the way, but Gus let that start to slide a bit. If we had lost 10 years in a row to Bama it would be one thing, but we beat them more than anyone else. The Saban thing is an excuse.

Gus’ big problem is that he wouldn’t adapt. He wouldn’t change. Each season became another episode of Groundhog Day. They all contained the same inspiring wins, as well as the same crushing, soul sucking defeats.
Meanwhile, across the state, that other coach revamped his entire philosophy, his process, to stay on the cutting edge of college football. His early teams strangled you with defense. His new teams hang 50-60 on you with a high powered offense.
I liked Gus, but he was too stubborn, too proud, to change.

That's what kind of HC Gustav was at AU. The only question now is whether Hars is worse/better/about the same.

You’re kinda being one though.
We all understand Saban was in the state at the same time. Does that make you happy with 8-5, 7-6, 6-5 seasons? Especially after almost a decade of running the program?
What coach would just accept those results and be happy with them? Seems like a loser mentality to say nothing was wrong just because Saban was coaching at Alabama. Have to change something. Gus refused to change clearly.

Well you could make an argument he does by way of effecting our recruiting.

Yes, and that would be a nonsense argument. Once Bama started winning they started recruiting nationally - players that we never would be able to sign regardless. If anything this actually should have opened up "local" recruiting for us even more, because there were local players that Bama just wouldn't/couldn't take because they could go into California or elsewhere and pull a 5-star instead.

Expect that they take nearly all the top Alabama players that we would usually get some of
Not to mention some GA, FL players that we might’ve been able to get

Look again. In a lot of those years you have Top 10 (if not Top 5 in some cases) players signing with Clemson or even Florida (and others). Not Auburn. But yes, Dan Mullen whipping your arse in your own state boils down to Nick Saban being at Alabama.
Posted on 12/28/21 at 9:33 am to metafour
So your argument is Alabama hasn’t taken any players from In state that we would usually get if Saban wasn’t there?

With the recruiting classes we did have, should we have been losing to South Carolina, Tennessee, UCF, and to LSU and uga every year?
The Saban thing is an excuse.
