AJ McCarron is the only full-time starter at QB to win unanimous back-to-back national titles in the modern era of college football. He discusses some of the things he and his team did to help make that a reality.

Step 1: Have a defense that allows 8-11 points per game and a total of 14 points across the 2 title games

USC won back to back from 2003-2004.

With the same QB?
Nebraska also won back to back in 94-95

If he's explaining football to Clay Travis I hope he brings some crayons and shiny objects to help keep him interested.

True, but they weren't unanimous. 2011-12 Alabama was.

Matt Leinart yes.
They weren’t consensus though. I think LSU won coaches, USC won AP.

How did they win in 03 without being in the championship game? You can’t claim split national champs once we got in the BCS area

LSU won the BCS, USC didn't win shite.
The BCS was the agreed upon format for college football.

The AP poll, which if I recall was part of the BCS formula, recognized USC as the NCs/#1 at end of the season, and not LSU, who won the BCS Championship Game. This was largely in part due to the fact Oklahoma was allowed in the game, yet they were demolished in their conference title game.

I feel that people are finally beginning to stop trolling us about the split title and are giving that 2003 LSU team a lot more credit.

It would be a fair statement to say the last national championship USC won was 72
Maybe a split 74

The BCS was the agreement college football came to. It's the only one that is valid.
The AP can award whatever the hell they want, doesn't mean it matters. I can award Alabama a National Championship every year, but it doesn't mean shite.

I don't know what all that is about, but USC and the Pac/Big10 blocked the BCS from happening for years until they started getting hurt by everyone else playing #1 vs #2 when they could with the bowl coalition.
So USC claiming an AP when they didn't get their way and trying to bypass the BCS can suck a dick.

I'm not saying it wasn't the agreement they came to. You're right, the AP can award whoever the hell they want. It mattered because it was a respected poll and they recognized USC as the #1 team, which pissed off a bunch of LSU/SEC fans. The AP ranked them #1, USC didn't rank themselves #1. The fact is USC won the AP National Championship in 2003.. how much people value that is up to them.

LSU won the BCS. I always thought Oklahoma shouldn't have been in that game after getting trounced by Kansas State 35-7.

He rates below Young, Jones, Tagovailoa, & Hurts.
Yet he, Coker, and McElroy have more combined titles.
