Downvotes here mean absolutely nothing. It’s a feature used to prey upon the weak minded.
There’s no “karma” like there is on Reddit, which uses the feature to censor free speech. Don’t be a communist pussy, which is a huge percentage of Reddit users.
What this place could really use is an ignore/ block feature. That is how you ultimately kill off trolls because they don’t get fed.

Sadly, none of the boards will ever get one because the site traffic that trolling creates is better for business.
It has always been relatively loose moderation on most boards, which is a perk. But, the only way some of the recurring cast of characters (mainly on the SECRant) remain is that they generate traffic. Unfortunately, football talk is dead there.
Team boards are much better off for discussion because of the mods control on access and tighter grip on content. That said, opposing ideas are healthy. Not sure why upvotes or downvotes should matter; and when it is just an obvious clown DV'ing for no other reason than to do it, it should certainly not matter

Serious Question:
Why are posters so concerned with whether "the board" agrees with them, or not? If you're looking for adulation and social prominence on a message board, then you need to seriously do a self-evaluation. I can appreciate that many around here are youngsters, and feel the need for emotional confidence building, but places like this, more often than not, will diminish confidence.
If/when you can get to the point where you think it nice to be agreed with, but not necessary, AND it won't bother you if you're NOT, then you'll find the place much more enjoyable.

I don't think it's so much the "hot takes" and general run-of-the-mill discussion that folks have a problem with when they're downvoted. I believe it's more the posts like TidalSurge1's update on his health issues in the recruiting thread that raises folks' hackles when they're downvoted.

It's very well possible someone feels it's the wrong place to have that sort of discussion (I have no idea, I hadn't even been in that thread until 2 minutes ago but there are a lot of pages talking about OT topics) regardless of what said topic actually is. No one should take downvotes personally

Well, if he simply would have created a TS Health Update Megathread and uncluttered the recruiting board, the whole thing could have been avoided.
J.k. for those who lack a sense of humor. Have been a long time TS supporter since we were having people "PM Tidal Surge" for details on Tide Sprotz.
True Bama board legend in recruiting 3 x over between TS, WoolyAl 1.0 (maybe even very briefly at RTR), and then here.
He is a curmudgeon of the highest order for all thinks structure and order etiquette on a recruiting board, but a good dude nonetheless. Very glad he is back healthy... downvotes and all.
