I was just thinking if I was Bryce Young or CJ Stroud why wouldn’t I threaten to leave and act like I’m entering the portal so all local business would throw NIL money at me to stay?

What stops a kid from using the portal as leverage?

This is going to prove to be such a giant frick up. There will be unintended consequences aplenty. Like letting 9 year olds in charge for a day. But we're letting them in charge indefinitely.

Like do you put a limit on how many endorsements a kid can have from a local business in 1 calendar year? Do you put a cap on earnings in a calendar year?

I'm all in favor of the players getting some monetary payment.
But, this NIL shite, is an ill conceived mess.

And when the coach asked why he did it. The response should be...

Nothing can stop them. The NCAA's hands are tied because this shite goes beyond their power. It's state and federal law now. To make it worse, various states have various NIL laws. Alabama's laws aren't as permissive as some states (that will change as soon as Saban bitches).

I think the completely open portal is worse than NIL.

Nothing. Just like NIL, the NCAA didn't think this through at all.

All of this is going to end up destroying the very thing that made college football so special. The fact that it wasn’t the NFL. More corporatization doesn’t equal a better product. It is going to be NFL lite now. Those of us over mid forties may just have to leave this coming shitshow to the youngsters because I’m sure your generation will think it’s great. Us old white guys know better.

As soon as a player puts in his name, by rule, the university doesn't have to renew his scholarship. It's that simple.

If you're good enough to be wanted, you can go free agent. If you're not - you can't.

No different than sending out a resume'.

You can do it. But you better be right. Kind of like free speech. You can't go to jail. But the public can frick your business up. Ask the Dixie Chicks.
