Wow - there is a lot going on in this thread...
Word is still out on Harsin. He has already made good and bad decisions and a lot of the things that happened this year were out of his control. Also, I don't know what you all define as a first full recruiting cycle. The guy landed in Auburn not even 12 months ago and had to hire an entire staff and establish relationships in a totally different area of the country. You can't sit there and tell me he's had the same advantages of other coaches that have been at their respective school for at least a season.
With that said, even with the time he has had to recruit, the results have been lackluster. Of course, this could be due to everything I just mentioned above, but I'll be worried if we get these kinds of results in year 2. Also - it's certainly possible that our class ends up in the top 15 nationally...not sure why some of you think that's a pipe dream. Is it likely? Probably not - but certainly not out of the question.
Losing Bo and Tank hurts. You cannot sugarcoat it. I will say I am disappointed in how players these days conduct themselves. NIL and the transfer portal have had the same effect on HS and college player egos and sense of entitlement as gasoline has on a fire. It looks selfish because in most cases it is selfish. I think the ease with which Bo and Tank could try to find success elsewhere while still getting paid has led them both to make a poor decision. Auburn will only be better for it if they were both complaining to the team behind the scenes and sowing discontent, but it's foolish to say Auburn has a better chance of success without them.

All im saying is we are fine w/o Bo Nix or Tank, niether were consistent. Both were “me” guys with their emotions on and off the field.
With the recruits we are in on currently and the ones we have left, im not worried. Yall will see over the next few days if our staff can recruit or not.

One thing I can say after having Richt and then Kirby....In the SEC, back end top ten to 15 is terrible recruiting. You'll never get in the playoff or win the conference or better.

Its great to be a fan and have hope, and as far as the Iron Bowl, it only helped Alabama and hurt Auburn. Alabama has 6 of the 9 top players in the state and a couple of the other 3 are not committed to Auburn. Outside the state, they don't care that Auburn almost beat Alabama.

Can you give me an example of someone coming out of the SEC without at least two top six classes in the previous four years.
Kirby in 2017 maybe because Richt probably didn't sign one the previous two years before he got there and the first year, he had to get what he could in a short time. But he also had a handful of NFL talent guys that hung around for an extra year when they would've been drafted. Kirby improved on Richt (who was better than Harsin and at least even with Gus) immediately.
LSU 2019 had two top three classes nationally and a top 7 class out of the four preceding their natty.
We don't need to look at Alabama for the past 8 seasons or Georgia this year to know that doesn't help your argument.

Harsin is learning on the job and he’s made a few mistakes but the guy is a winner. If we are patient I think Auburn will see the fruits of his labor in 2024-25. We are in a position where we need to be patient and allow him to build it the way he want to to then hold him accountable. I like Harsin’s approach and I think we’re seeing the fallout of some cultural artifacts left behind from Gus. The right players will be attracted by his “no politics” meritocracy approach to playing time. It just may take him a few seasons. The challenge as I see it is that I don’t have much faith in the leadership at AU to allow him the time and resources but we shall see.

Hopefully they keep Harsin long enough for him to get 3 crappy recruiting classes in a row in there... it'll cripple them for a half decade+

On Tank, tremendous player but he wasnt the same Tank and has really regressed as a player. Will he be missed? Absolutely, but Auburn has a history of producing good backs, so no concern there. Auburn needs to work on their OL before we care what RB is leaving our Backfield.
As for Bo Nix, it’s unheard of to be a 3 year starter at Auburn as a legacy player, and then choose to transfer elsewhere as a graduate. This guy grew up an Auburn fan, his dad played and started at Auburn, and both left if all on the field for Auburn. And then he transfers? Wow.

There's no question that all of this shite is bad for Auburn, but it's never as bad as it seems. Auburn has been bad before but has never been down for long.

I’ll wait and see on recruiting. I’ve heard the “they’re just waiting to flip” routine several times in the past and it usually amounts to not much.
Without Nix, Auburn wins 3 games this season and Harsin is on a blazing hot seat with no bowl game to play.
Tank, not as big a loss since we won’t have an offensive line of note to block for any back, but doesn’t send a happy message to potential recruits.
I don’t understand this ridiculous love some Auburn fans have for Brian Harsin. He was an oddball hire with a ho-hum resume in the mountain west. Just because he looks pissed all the time and throws out corporate leadership 101 buzzwords doesn’t mean he’s free from responsibility for a pretty crappy first year. Unless he gets very lucky in the portal, next year is looking considerably worse.
