Mal was without a doubt the greatest AD in college football history. Alabama fans we need to count our blessings and be thankful to the man who made it all possible. Without Mal Moore where would Alabama be right now? I find it fitting that the last game Mal Moore watched before his death was Alabama throttling Notre Dame for the national championship. Thank you Mal for bringing in "The Coach" and laying the foundation for what we now enjoy. A foundation set for continued success far into the future.

Not even close. He lucked in to the Saban hire. He nearly hired Rich Rod.

Byrne is the best AD we have ever had.

I'm a big fan, but he literally caught lightning in a bottle.
We could easily have been 4 coaches removed from Rich Rod if it played out differently.
Sexton may have as much to do with it as anything.

It was mal convincing Miss Terry that made all of this happen.

He also hired Dennis Franchione, Mike Price, and Mike Shula.

It was Sexton convincing Mal to be patient in a hotel room two blocks from Saban's Miami home when Nick refused to meet with him that made the difference

Rich Rod would have been on that list too if Finebaum hadn't saved the day

Let’s give the Bama Legend his due. He kept pursuing Coach Saban, and he didn’t give up until he got his man. You “gotta” love Mal if you are a Bama man.

I take it these guys don’t have statues outside of the stadium.

To be fair, Saban may not have either if he came earlier in the probation, schollie redux, postseason/TV ban period of the 00s.

After the first national championship Saban did not want a statue put up yet. It was Mal who insisted and made it happen.

Before Saban you Gumps wanted to string him up.

True, but he was pressured into it by the dumbass BOTs who didnt want to wait on Saban. Mal wanted Saban and no one else. Thankfully Rita wouldn't let Rich Rod take the job. Bless her.

She didn’t want to live in Tuscaloosa then and is now living in Jacksonville AL

He's not even the greatest Alabama football AD of all time, much less all of college football.

I listened to Finebaum on that day. Finebaum + his then sidekick Neal Vickers calling Rita a bleached haired mess is what made the difference.
also a fan of West Virginia called in an Finebaum spent five minutes roasting him. Even had dueling banjos playing in the background while guy went on his rant. It’s amazing that one show in the early days of December in 2006 changed the direction of the sport so much.
