Make more sense to use those guys to push the oline out of the way creating rush lanes.
To me the ball snapped,, and our dl got moved into a pocket shape that cut off our own lbers.

They were also held quite a bit and no penalties.

Someone way more X and Os may correct me here, but UGA has not been an overly aggressive type scheme DL under Kirby.Auburn is a much more disruptive and upfield kind of attack. I went into the game thinking this was the worst OL in Bamas history and that we’d easily get home with 3-4 rushers, but now it seems like they have outplayed every Bama Ol that has played us before.
Once we were blitzing and still not getting to Young or got rid of it accurately in the face of pressure, I knew we were in trouble.
Defense couldn’t cover for 2-3 seconds much less the 5-6 Bryce got a lot of the night.

I saw a few things.
1) We were trying to contain more than attack. Dude had lots of clean pockets and picked us apart.
2) They seemed to pick up every blitz like they knew it was coming and where and how to block it.
3) They held with impunity.

I also didn’t notice us doing our usual pre-snap shift across the line much at all last night either. And it wasn’t like they were running the hurry up the whole game either.

We did it far less, we shifted left once and Robinson broke the long run off the right edge.
They knew exactly where to go.

That upfield rush on the edges is what I hope to see more of if we play again. May have to spy more since it will probably open the middle up for him to scramble but can't be less effective that last night.

quote:Saban seems to be pretty good at that except when he's not.Maybe we should give Coach O a call about his Bama strategy if we play again.Risky but it worked

LSU'S defense vs Bama
quote:
Nick Saban had referenced LSU using a “zero blitz” in which they brought everyone and left the cornerbacks one-on-one with the receivers. Orgeron said that was the first time in his six years as head coach they showed that look at LSU.
“Now, you’re gambling,” he said. “You’re playing zero coverage, one busted coverage and it’s a touchdown. But yes, we’re going to continue to do it.”

My thoughts are similar, man up to end blown coverages. Bring safety help. We screwed up that hybrid zone d we been running badly and left people open everywhere.

We're obviously gonna have to solve how their OL was so successful in picking up blitzes and seemingly knowing or anticipating our blitz packages.
The improvement shown by their OL in one week was one of the most bizarre turnarounds I've seen in all my years of watching CFB.
The only thing I'll say is Kirby & Lanning better change up their defensive signals yesterday.

That's because they were egregiously holding and weren't being called for it.

So they just started "egregiously
holding" this week? They learn some new techniques?
Pretty sure they did the same vs Auburn and LSU but without the same success.

Holding could be called on every play. I don’t remember it being overly egregious one way or the other. Despite the missed chop block on the Jameson Williams TD.

The auburn game was at auburn.
Homefield advantage in football is huge.
Dawgs played arkansas at home.
Bama played at arkansas.
There is a big scoring difference off of the slight variation in per play success rate home and away.

I dont remember any of our stunts effecting the OL.
Typically, the OL has to hand off the slanting defensive player making it more difficult to pick up the looping player.
So often, the slanting player was not followed by the facing blocker. He went straight to the other OL. And that allowed the initial OL to stay square and pickup the looper.
I dont know if their splits are so tight that they were coached not needing to carry defenders. But it looked like our slanting defender was attacking the other OL and not the gap in between.
