NIL and Opt Outs

With so many players opting out of bowl games, I'm surprised more NIL deals don't require players to play in postseason games. Seems like a no-brainer to me, and I'm not sure why someone hasn't started putting this in deals yet.

You seem to believe schools have a modicum of leverage, when in reality they do not.

With a year or two players will have agents and they will renegotiate every year. This will cost a lot of kids an opportunity for an education because if they don’t produce they will lose their scholarship!

I honestly can't recall the details, but haven't we discussed the legality of a "performance" clause as it relates to NIL?
Seems logical for a third-party advertiser to request, but I think someone pointed out that there was a contractual/legal issue with it.

The game is being intentionally destroyed
NIL
Spearing has been replaced with "targeting" and "launching" so that the TV money gods can control the outcome of games.
Ask a 21-year-old if they've ever even heard of spearing. They usually haven't.
Helmet to helmet literally happens every play of every game, but it's only called when the money gods want to control a game.

Marvin Harrison Jr. and TreVeyon Henderson have allegedly been offered NIL deals that rival first-round draft pick money to keep them at Ohio State for the 2024 season, per sources. It’s unclear if either will accept the deals.

No, but the businesses and collectives writing the checks do. OK, 20 year old WR, you want to be semi-pro and sign a contract that allows you to make money? Well, sometimes those contracts have stipulations.

No leverage whatsoever. These players can play wherever they want to, and don’t have to play this kind of hardball to get a bag.

If NFL teams can build clauses into a contract, so can the businesses and collectives that are paying these kids.

As they should.

The problem is these kids have no loyalty to any one program - someone else will offer them the same contract w no stipulations because of the varied state of programs around the country and those programs' objectives and they will take it. They don't care where the school is, esp as the SEC has lost some of its luster in recent years. They only care about their draft stock. Penix and Nix writing themselves into the first round in non-SEC confs sort of compounds this perspective. Just my two cents

Anias Smith is the definition of what CFB should be. Kid had season-ending surgery but is helping coach at the Bowl game. Our WR's might actually have some decent coaching for the first time in two years!

Didn’t know Smith got injured again. He’s a real talent who has had some terrible luck. Seems like a class act.

He's declaring for the NFL draft. I hope he catches on with an NFL team - I'm rooting for his success.

18-19 year olds & their agents run this sport.

Nothing demonstrates that more than the number of starting qb’s on winning teams jumping ship to a conference rival for a few more bucks.

It’s a free country. It’s about time players run the show.

Recruiting pitch to a top flight player.
X State University - You'll have a chance to compete for a starting job the minute you step on campus. Our NIL collective will give you $750,000 but the stipulation to that is you have to play in all games, including the bowl game, if you aren't injured. Otherwise they will only pay you $692,500.
University of X - You'll have a chance to compete for a starting job the minute you step on campus. Our NIL collective will give you $750,000, even if you decide to sit out a bowl game.
Which offer do you think the kid takes? Which offer would you take?
