Aggie fans, question RE: Petrino & Fisher

Was it your belief that Jimbo made Petrino stay with his original offense and that was the root of your offensive issues this season?
I found some of Petrino’s comments in the X link below head scratching. Why hire an OC that has a proven offensive system if you’re going to make him continue to run your system that has your seat warm?
Petrino on X

Legit discussion. Curious what Aggieland heard was going on all season versus what Petrino states. BP can’t exactly always be trusted 100% of the time.
It also seems like, if true, Jimbo did it to himself.

Yes. Supposedly their offenses are fairly similar, how true that is I don’t know. But our offense looked very similar the first 9-10 weeks to previous years

Because Jimbo is stubborn as hell, and I think he genuinely believed it would work and that his seat wasn’t as warm as it was

I am just glad to see you back baw. And Latarian and all of the other Hawg luminaries. Did not realize how the second coming of BMFP would help this board like it did.

I'd like to do it to myself that way, maybe even twice. When I found myself out in the cold, I'd use my 150 million to keep me warm.

What’s it matter? Before Connor got hurt, we had way more explosive plays and scored points in Jimbo’s offense with Bobby calling the plays. And we had some success okay success in Bobby’s offense the last 2 games with Henderson. But Henderson’s best game (51 points vs State) was in Jimbo’s offense. Max struggled the most tbh. It was all different based on the QB injuries so it’s kinda misleading giving Bobby too much or too little credit. Btw, I could only assume Jimbo preferred making Bobby learn the terminology the players all know like the back of their hand after being in that system for years vs Bobby coming in with a new playbook and terminology.
If you want to watch Bobby’s offense, check out the highlights for ACU and LSU.

I think many pointed out the offense did not look very different with Petrino at the helm. Hopefully Arkansas gets the best out of him.

quote:The root of our offensive issues last year, and the year before that, and the year before that, was poor offensive line play. Doesn't matter what system you run if you don't block anyone. I'm sure Petrino could have done slightly better if given more freedom, but as long as our offensive line play stunk, it wouldn't have mattered much, and I don't think Petrino being given more rope would have been enough to change that.

They want Bobby to have an explosive offense with a bad OL. That didn’t work out well.
Hawgs, I’m happy for you guys. But I ask you to temper your expectations on having a high scoring, explosive offense until your OL improves.

Petrino is solid on O. Did great job identifying and recruiting Henderson as a backup and getting him ready.
If Jimbo had replaced the OL Coach and turned the O completely over to Petrino he would still be HC.

This . . . .Jimbo screwed himself by being a control freak.
Petrino's hiring raised some eyebrows as he did run a scheme fairly similar to Jimbo's approach. The prodding to hire an offensive coordinator was not meant to have Jimbo find an expensive yes man who do more of the same.
Petrino said as much in his intro press conference, saying he was in College Station to do what he was told.
Steve Addazio's failures in developing the line and Weigman's injuries made it all a moot point.

I think he’s referencing the two games after Jimbo was fired (where Petrino would have free reign) vs the first 10. We were definitely better this year vs last.

Combing the injury to Weigman with a really terrible offensive line play doomed the Aggie season. Connor’s quick release and downfield accuracy covered up the offensive line’s deep flaws. A bad o line magnified Johnson’s well known flaws… all of that limited both Jimbo’s and Petrino’s play calling. Late in the season with a third string QB…shitty OLine..it’s a wonder we played anyone close.

Oline is first priority and is being remedied.
