I agree with nonReg.
My thinking is that two big factors will hold those in power from building new on West Campus or moving to Reliant for 2. You have the historic Kyle Field that too man ags would shite a brick over if you told them you were gonna move the stadium. For the second, the 12th Man is the student section (especially these days with old army sitting on their arse) so you really can't displace 30k for two years. I just can't see them telling students, "hey, unless you drive 90 miles every weekend you might not get to watch'em play".

No doubt it'll grow in the coming years however.
I think you're right on this, but your info may be a little out of date. Over the last several years, we've averaged just over 64,000, meaning there are few, if any, actual seats available. The official "capacity" includes GA ground seating on the hill. We've packed in more than 75,000 for big games, but for right now there's probably not a need to expand seating that much. I'd like to see them close in the north endzone, and narrow the hill, allowing for a few more thousand seats while keeping the traditional rock M. That, in addition to boxes on the east side, would do for now. Down the road, that will probably change, and we'll need to add more capacity.

I hate to say this sentence, but "Cooter is right."
College Station businesses have no stroke in this deal, it's way bigger than them.
Expect a rebuild in place and a season away from Kyle. You have to take the long (100 year) view here.

Also seems like you're talking out of your arse a bit on this point.
Ok, brah.

Your grounds for arguement against the validity of the AD's study showing we'd make more camping for a couple of seasons in Reliant than present-day Kyle are based more on emotion than knowlege of the facts.
Are you aware of our huge suite waiting list? Are you aware of the fact that Aggies bought out every suite in Jerry World in a couple of hours after we were announced to be playing in the Cotton Bowl vs. LSU? The money to be made in Reliant is all about suites and club seats. Why else do you think that's the focus of every new NFL stadium and every recent college expansion? That's where ALL the real money is.
Whether or not the students travel isn't really a concern of the AD. They'll give lip-service to caring about the students, but with the amount of Ags in Houston who would pay full-price for just a regular chairback seat in Reliant where they could sit with beer in-hand amidst air-conditioned comfort after a short trip across town, the AD will be smiling all the way to the bank if the students don't want to drive down.

Anyone from Dallas who doesn't want to drive or fly down will easily be replaced by Aggie Houstonians who are attracted to the ease of getting to Reliant as well as the many other SEC schools with fans who live in Houston. Dallas is Raider, Sooner, Poke, Frog and Pony-land. Our alumni base is very, very, very heavily weighted toward Houston.

I agree with all this. The AD would make tons of money off suites at Reliant. The rush from O&G companies trying to get one for our home slate that season would be ridiculous. I would definitely be purchasing tickets at Reliant. It's not ideal but it's easily the best option given the circumstances.

Mizzou is doing some minor renovations this offseason like moving the hill in, and starting the actual expansion next year.

The correct answer is Texas A&M University.
actually i think the correct answer is lsu. unless you plan on starting after us and finishing before us.

Not an expansion, but UK just announced a $110 million dollar renovation plan for Commonwealth Stadium. I think part of the plan is a reduction of seats to add some club level seating and more luxury suites.

Mizzou wins this in a landslide. A&M is picking designers, Mizzou is signing up contractors.
Mizzou breaks ground on phase 1 this winter, I think end of February. The first phase includes 5-6k new seats and 900 or so seats in luxury suites.
Phase 2 is more of a 10-15 year plan which will be south endzone expansion and take MU over the 85k mark.
For those saying Mizzou doesn't need the expansion that is flat out wrong. Mizzou sells out its actual "seats" regularly. The demand for actual seats is very high. We have about 63k "seats" currently but our average attendance was 67k. People won't buy hill seats for the crappy games so that keeps us under our listed capacity of 71k. We are the only school that doesn't list seating capacity as the listed "capacity." The hill seats are SRO and don't go on sale until the seats are almost sold out. It is stupid that the AD doesn't list capacity like everyone else.

well lsu has already started. so lsu wins in a landslide. unless your expansion is so small it will take only 6 months to do.

Part of it is. MU will have additional seats ready by this fall for the beginning of the 2013 season. Sorry bro.

Technically we are signing contractors, but that wasn't the point of this bump... it was that some Aggie was talking out of his arse, and made some ludicrous claims and was wrong. I was right. He was wrong. Nothing to do with the thread title.

You'll call me a BSer, so blast away, but from what I've been told, allusions to a plan to tear down and rebuild in stages have always just been lip-service to local businessowners and Aggies in Dallas, who they need to appease up until they annouce how they're really going to do it, at which point it will be too late for them to raise a ruckus capable of derailing anything.
Doing it in stages would be less efficient, more expensive, and a general cluster.
They've already conducted a study that with the increased suite revenue, increased club seat revenue, and increased ticket revenue from general tickets (due to increased ticket VALUE of every seat being a chairback) and a split of parking, they'd make MORE money off of a season or two in Reliant than they would playing in College Station with Kyle as-is, and ESPECIALLY more money if capacity was drastically reduced by rebuilding in stages. Houston is THE employment Mecca for Aggie grads, so they're not worried about selling out.
You have to figure in lost revenue as a cost. That's why there's only two real plans - a tear-down and play in Houston for a season or two plan and a play in Old Kyle while New Kyle is built plan. Both of those are at least revenue-neutral.
This is what I was referencing. Some young buck Aggie that reads TexAgs made some crazy inferences. I was right. He was wrong.

I like what LSU has planned.
My question is, who would drop tens of thousands of dollars on a suite in an endzone? It's kind of a shite view, I'm not sure food & booze & looking down on the plebeians makes up for it.

lots of people. it may not be for you (me either for that matter) but the demand for it is not lacking.
