Oscar went Shankapottamus on us last night , twice I think. He had 5 punts for 171 yards, with a longest of 46 yards.

That means he averaged ~30 yards per on the other 4 punts. Hell, I averaged better than that in middle school.

What the hell was going on there?

Our Special Teams unit , coached by Tanner Burns, is the most inconsistent unit I’ve seen on the Plains in a long long time. I know Burns has been with Freeze for a long time, but c’mon coach …. get it together.

There’s an old axiom in CFB …. your ST talent is an indicator of what to expect from your team the following season ( because a lot of your younger talent breaks in on ST). I don’t know how that axiom holds true with the portal traffic these days, but I sure hope it no longer holds true.

It’s looked like he couldn’t get a good plant on the shanks. It was strangely slick last night.

I think he (or the ST coach) likes to get too cute, much like the HC.

How so? ….. how does a punter get too cute with a basic fundamental?

Both shanks were on plays where we needed length/ hang time, not pinpoint accuracy

He could have been sick. Not everyone feels great every day. If so it's up to the coaches to replace him that game.

With what?

It’s such an unorthodox way of kicking, no one can tell him what he’s wrong.

Bad night.

We were skipping around all night, and that does not normally happen at JHS

I'm not going to complain too much. Oscar saved us on the tying FG. The snap was short and he grabbed it and got it set up in time to save the kick.

Field was definitely slick for some reason. Lots of players seemed to go down without any help.

I know that the rugby roll out is supposed to help keep a punt from being blocked, and being Aussie it is probably the only way he knows, but I would think after one, certainly after two, maybe try old school snap, catch, drop, kick.
