The Lane Train rolling into Oxford got me thinking. Here are my current coach rankings.
1. Nick Saban (Alabama) trending: same
2. Ed Orgeron (LSU) trending: up
3. Kirby Smart (Georgia) trending: same
4. Dan Mullen (Florida) trending: up
5. Gus Malzahn (Auburn) trending: same
6. Mark Stoops (Kentucky) trending: up
7. Lane Kiffin (Ole Miss) new hire
8. Jimbo Fisher (Texas A&M) trending: down
9. Jeremy Pruitt (Tennessee) trending: up
10. Joe Moorhead (Miss State) trending: down
11. Will Muschamp (S. Carolina) trending: down
12. Derek Mason (Vanderbilt) trending: down
*Arkansas and Mizzou are still vacant
Where would you guys rank Gus? As of now, I feel like he is last among the upper echelon of the league (Bama, UGA, Florida, LSU, Auburn). These next couple of years are pivotal for him to separate himself and Auburn towards the top while also holding off A&M, Tennessee, Ole Miss. I don't think Bama, UGA, Florida, or LSU are going anywhere anytime soon. He has to start beating those teams more consistently to make us a championship program.

My top would be
Saban
Mullen
Gus
Kirby
O
If O stays the course he will jump up big time. I think Gus is a substantially better coach than Kirby that just fails when it matters lol
Mullen is strong so far. Doing a lot with backup qbs
Gus in the east would be 10 wins every year imo.

As an SEC HC:
Gus: 62-30 (67%)
Mullen: 89-51 (64%)
Head-to-Head: 3-3 (Miss St 5x, Fla 1x)
Most of Mullen's work was at Miss State. As of now, I have to rank Cousin Eddie ahead of Gus. I think the evidence is there.

Looks about right. You could put kiffen almost anywhere and justify it. He is a wildcard

Gus is above average against most people.
Gus is a wizard versus Saban.
His record vs Saban is what bumps him up

Okay, but one had the benefit of coaching at Auburn, the other Mississippi State. I'm sure I don't have to point out the disadvantages someone faces when coaching in Starkville. Now Mullen is turning around the shite show that was Florida. What he's done is incredible.
IMO, Mullen is undoubtedly a better a coach than Gus. A lot of the success Gus has gotten lately is because of Steele and the defense. Remove Steele, and Gus isn't even our coach at the end of the year. So I'll give him credit for making the hire, but that one good decision only goes so far for me when his main job is to work on the offense.

Other than Saban and maybe Mullen, i don't think i would take any of those over Malzahn. I think the muppet in Baton Rouge caught lightening in a bottle.

That "muppet" constructed the most explosive offense in the country by adding Brady, Burrow, etc.
Gus started a true freshman at QB and brought in a 28 year old glorified GA from Memphis to be OC/QB coach in year 7.
Advantage Coach O...

Chizik > Malzahn, right?

1. Saban
2. Kirby
3. Ed O
4T. Mullen
4T. Gus
Gus is the superior recruiter over Mullen, and Mullen is the better XO coach
If Gus could figure out how to run and offense again and beat our rivals other than Bama (which I doubt) he would be way higher

4-9 (31%) vs. Bama, UGA, LSU, and Fla
1 SEC title
1 Natty
Malzahn
7-16 (30%) vs. Bama, UGA, LSU, and Fla
1 SEC title
No Natty
Advantage Chiz...

What are we ranking them on?
Not trying to be flippant, but honestly I would like to see the criteria people value the most.
Recruiting?
Winning the division?
Winning the SEC?
Wins versus ranked opponents?
By some of these metrics you might put Mullen low, and that would be a mistake in my view.

Don't be mad that I posted some stats to undermine your smartass comment.

Geez. i didn't realize you were so invested in LSU's coach. i thought you wanted opinions. so i guess you would fire gus and take coach o today if you could? based on this year and the fact that he hired a guy that can coach QBs? You know their defense isn't that great right?

Far from mad. Your stats aren’t very meaningful, though.

Same thing was true of Gus at one point, added himself and Nick Marshall and had a terrifying offense. Didn’t last forever, may not last for O either.
