as far as hiring an OC goes, if its indeed Faulkner we would likely have to wait on him thru the CFP as well, unless they lose a couple more games before selection Sunday (which is a distinct possibility)

sidebar: where the hell did Mike G come from? do we have any idea if his sauces are legit?

Eh, he is like any of our guys. He isn’t some super insider but he does know people. He’ll get a tidbit here and there. Frankly I also think with how Cohen has conducted things this run, I don’t think anything is getting out that they aren’t allowing. We’ve been very uncharacteristically tight lipped this go around, which has been very refreshing.

some of those concerns are legitimate

Thank you for acknowledging that. Folks on this board are burning hot for Sumrall without considering the possible consequences of hiring him. I am very concerned about the staff he might bring with him or hire, the potential loss of our best players, the loss of some of our best coaching staff, and his ability to go from coaching at Tulane to coaching in the SEC with a tougher schedule than he has ever faced before. He did coach a game against Ole Miss this season and lost 45-10 if my memory is correct. I will concede that he has an impressive record at Tulane but Harsin had an impressive record at Boise State and we saw what happened when he was hired at Auburn. Same goes for Sunbelt Billy at Florida. I am trying to feel ok about Auburn hiring Sumrall. I want to be wrong here. Auburn winning is more important than me being right but I just cant stop worrying and get on board right now

Why do Auburn fans make Durkin into some kinda DC superhero?

Because our program has been so bad for so long and our defense this year has been the first consistent good thing we've seen for many years.

More like, you are trying to chose what knife to go into battle with and Auburn says how about this here gun, would that help.

That is the search I'm here for.

This kind of underscores the point some of us are making. If you don’t trust your leading candidate to bring in a proper staff, he shouldn’t be a candidate at all.

Last time I felt like Auburn forced an OC on a coach was Tony Franklin

I never got that impression. I remember Tubs discussing it at the time. He wanted to modernize the offense and people in the coaching ranks told him Franklin was a spread offense maestro.

Tubs continued running a similar offense at Texas Tech, so it does seem like a decision he made.

You never got the impression that Franklin was forced upon Tubs? The Bbq gang had a freaking mutiny and were instrumental in torpedoing him.

MikeG gets constant access to the facilities and players, its how he sometimes get this behind the scenes information. He tells you he talks to Cam Coleman and Thorne when he was here.

I'm pretty sure Napier brought almost his whole staff to Florida, and he definitely continued to call plays.

If Sumrall does this, yes, you should worry.

If Sumrall is able to retain Durkin and attract an OC the quality of Faulkner, no, you should not worry.

I think it was a desperation move by Tubs. His mistake was not bringing some new staff along with Franklin. The BBQ Boyz didn't mesh with Franklin. It was a bad fit.

Again, Tubs kept running that offense at Texas Tech. David Housel didn't follow him there and force him to do that.

Consider the possibility that Sumrall is telling cohen who he wants so he can be working on it in back channels until the announcement can be made. I have no idea if that’s the case but neither do most people spouting information as gospel.

That offense was already built into Texas Tech. Mike Leach had just been fired for the whole storage shed mess. Tubbs walked into a situation where one of the best offenses in the nation at the time was flourishing and he was smart enough to embrace it.

And if he were talking about a player I'd probably believe him but this fan fiction he's come up with about having an OC lined up that has everyone in their feels is just silly. It doesn't work that way

Mike G is a legend in his own limited, simple mind.

If rumors are true I hope he wins. If he doesnt I won't be surprised. I cant imagine it was the top choice, maybe top available
