So we should praise Brohm’s mid record at Purdue and Louisville but shite on Sumrall’s far better record at Troy and Tulane?
By the way, it’s even generous to say he loses 4 games a season. In fact, that’s been his BEST record so far. Most years he’s lost more than 4.
And 9 seasons is not a small sample size.
Sorry, I see nothing but an average coach. If we end up with Brohm, I’ll get behind him. But I see nothing in his history to be impressed by.

You’re right, most seasons he loses more than 4. I was a being generous.
Losses in 9 seasons as the P4 level -
6, 7, 8, 4, 4, 5, 4, 4, 3 (with 3 games left).

Brohm's recors at Louisville:
10-4
9-4
7-3 (current)
His winning percentage at Louisville is literally no different than Sumrall's at Tulane.
And Sumrall's best win is Duke...

I think this sentiment is why Auburn can’t afford to go this route again. If you can’t bring in a guy that excites and unites your fanbase, you’re dead in the water as a program. Half of us are saying not this shite again and the other half are saying he’s the guy. To complicate matters further Sumrall’s biggest supporters here don’t even seem excited about the guy. There’s no frick yeahs, no trolling the rant, no shite talking or dancing bananas. You’re simply resigned to the fact that this is the best the program can do and you’re hoping and praying he can hang onto some of the bums from the last staff.. if you want to see what a fanbase that is excited and energized looks like, take a peak at the lunatics on the coaching changes board. That is program excitement, not this bullshite exercise in futility where our AD gins up the most underwhelming coaching search in school history. There’s simply no buzz around this search.
Buddy - a dozen idiots posting on Tigerdroppings is not a gauge on "program excitement" LOL. Auburn has among the most easily excited fans in the country. How do I know? Look at all of the damn sellout games despite the fact that it has been several years since we have even fielded a team above .500.
The vast majority of the fanbase is actually hoping that DJ Durkin is going to get the job. Go on Youtube and read the comments from the normies on the different AU Podcast shows. This is your actual gauge on what the normal Auburn fan is thinking/feeling. The vast majority of this fanbase thinks that Durkin would be a great hire. Are they correct? Probably not, but that is how easy it is to please the regular Auburn fan.
A non-trivial portion of the fanbase also wanted CADILLAC WILLIAMS to be the HC last time. If it is ultimately Sumrall, I can assure you that he will have no problem getting fans excited. Auburn fans are easy as shite to please.

My point exactly - he has never failed to lose at least 4 games at the P4 level.
He has a chance to lose less than 4 it this year, if he runs the table from here on out.

His competition is more stiff than Duke.
I am not prepared to bitch about 9-4 so stop asking!!

You need to learn how to properly scale performance up/down based on where a coach is actually coaching.
Mike Elko at Duke:
9-4
7-5
Mike Elko at Texas A&M:
8-5
10-0 in year two..
How is 10-0 possible? His record indicates that he loses ~5 games a season LOL.

How many coaches with that record don’t go on to go 10-0 at their next stop? Too many to calculate.

I’m not asking, I’m just saying. And you’ve just admitted that settling for 9-4 is what you’re after. Which is fine, if that’s your point of view. It’s better than we’ve been since we fired Gus.

Seeing these bananas dance really makes me want to support John sumrall. SUPPORT JOHN SUMRALL. SUPPORT JOHN SUMRALL. ALL HAIL THE DANCING BANANA.

No I didnt admit that. I am after more. I am not going to bitch about 9 win seasons when we haven't seen one since 2019.
And why are you only using Brohm's P4 record? His G5 record doesnt count but Sumrall's does? Didnt think so.

Nobody wants Durkin. Sumrall defines underwhelming. Cohen better start brushing up in job interviewing

Because the knock on Sumrall from the posters on this board is that he’s never coached at the P4 level. Yes, Bhrom had a much better record at Western Kentucky than at Purdue or Louisville.
Posted on 11/21/25 at 10:28 am to NewYrkTiger
I don’t care about that Sumrall hasn’t coached P4. The difference between him and Brohm for me is I’ve seen with my own eyes him beating top 5-10 teams while coaching worse programs than Vandy. That’s major IMO.

Steve Spurrier at Duke:
1987: 5-6 record
1988: 7-3-1 record
1989: 8-4
Saban at Michigan State .... blah blah blah
Nobody is saying Sumrall can't be a good coach ... but the credentials are far from bullet proof.
What Brohm could immediately inject into the program is pretty much bullet proof - good QB coaching with a very competent offense.

Fair enough. I submit that you should really look at those seasons as a whole. But I certainly can’t argue beating top 5-10 teams at any school isn’t impressive.

Auburn fans are easy as shite to please.
And that’s why the program is sitting in the toilet. Easy to please gets you 5-19 Gene, Gus, Potato man and country club Freeze.. Cohen doesn’t have to aim high because he knows he can serve this fanbase another shite sandwich on a different piece of bread and they’ll be lining up to ask for the recipe.

More questions than answers with Sumrall. Auburn can't afford to find out the answers to those questions end up being wrong...again. if Dillingham or Brohm fails, at least we went after the best hire that we could have made, tried for the homerun. If Sumrall fails, it will be a bunch of I told you so's
