Well, on the bright side, maybe we can get a DC who gives a shite about defending the pass, and stopping teams on 3rd down.

Not singling you out but I think people are completely mischaracterizing Cohen's timeline.. He said he would love to have a coach within 24 hours after the iron bowl, but didn't know how realistic that was because it would depend on how the seasons of coaching candidates wrapped up.. A lot of people are taking that and declaring we are naming a coach on Sunday.

This coaching search is going to take as long as it takes which unfortunately could drag into December now if Cohen seriously miscalculated on Sumrall

Exactly. He had to know how hot Sumrall's name was. He knew two teams were going to lose the Kiffin Sweepstakes. He had to know those teams would turn their attention to Sumrall.

Could it be that Sumrall didn't want to sign?

If he names DJ Sunday, Cohen should be fired Monday.

You people are insane. What are you basing ANY of your melting on? Reports? By people that have zero clue what tf they’re talking about. Why would cohen or sumrall tell anyone besides themselves what is happening? Get a grip ya retards, nobody knows anything. As with every single coaching search thats ever happened. You just have to wait and see.

Hopefully there are people talking to Cohen today and telling him that if we miss on Sumrall, we should continue interviewing other candidates such as Bob Chesney.

Dawg, the national media are reporting that Sumrall and Florida are in the process of coming to an agreement. Florida's own reporters are now suggesting that a deal is imminent while Auburn's reporters have all but conceded on Sumrall.

The national media does not "make shite up" as they have no dog in the race regardless (none of them give a shite whether Sumrall ends up at Auburn or Florida, a story is a story for them). They also have the best sources as they are where the agents and coaches actually go to break their news. Its almost always national media breaking coaching hires.

The fact that ALL of the press is now on Sumrall to Florida while Sumrall has apparently announced that he is announcing his decision by Sunday should obviously point to one thing.

I like him but to me the more objective issue is if it is true that part of the reason that we lost him was trying to “suggest” that he retain a particular staff member, and also the fact that we had no backup plan outside of the current interim that is a former failed head coach.

First off, grip these nuts

Everything that has happened in the past 24 to 48 hours, I called weeks ago. It doesn't take an insider to see that dictating coaching staff decisions to candidates is like juggling a live hand grenade. It doesn't take an insider to know shutting down a coaching search weeks ago because "it's a done deal" is an insanely stupid risk to take during one of the most pivotal AU coaching searches in the last 45 years..

That’s where i’m at with it. He’s been a HC at G5 schools for 4 years. If UF wants to give him 10 million/ year as is being reported then bless their hearts

What’s more insane, that or giving Durkin $5-6 million and a buyout?

Just go hire the guy who beat the brakes off of Tulane a few weeks ago. His name is out there, and he's a damn good coach. One just has to be willing to take off the blinders that have them focused on the same 4 or 5 coaches that get posted here ad nauseam,

and not just him. there are others. This idea that only 4 or 5 guys in the entire country know how to coach football is tiresome

I don't give too much a shite about Sumrall, but the guy has been a HC for 4 years and he has a chance tomorrow to end up playing for the Conference Championship for the 4th time. So he is one win away from batting 1.000 on getting his team to the Conference Championship. Yes it is in the G5, but this is impressive regardless, hence why at least 3 SEC schools (Florida, Auburn, and Ole Miss) have shown serious interest in him. Florida is about to hire him, we know that he was our first choice, and he was allegedly Ole Miss' first choice in the event that Kiffin left.

Instead of getting a guy who our peers have also concluded is worthy of coaching their programs, we are in line to end up with the laziest of lazy hires in true Auburn fashion: promoting our DC who literally nobody else wants as their HC, and who has already failed miserably once as a HC.

I don't care if Sumrall "excites you" or not. He is more "exciting" than DJ Durkin, which is the crux of the issue here. Auburn continually makes hires that literally nobody else would make, and then we act surprised when they fail miserably. Rinse and repeat.

Some guy on reddit who claims to work in the ath department basically said all Smurphy did, but laid out the tineline. Sumrall has signed an agreement with us, but not a contract. UF is pushing, but no decision yet.

surely you're not advocating for a coach leading a 4-4 team.

So what will have to happen for us to get a contract signed vs Florida? Do we have the upper hand since we have an agreement or does it even matter? If it doesn’t matter then why did we even sign that
