I just read an article on Apple News. Apparently, AOC was telling people to not go to bars. The reply from a young woman was “this is America and I’ll do what I want”. This is why things are going to get bad. There are quite a few Darwin Award nominees in there.

First 800 or so deaths in Italy. I imagine given their increases in deaths + health system being stressed it has potential to be worse

Was this the one? She's doubled-down on it too.

Here's a scenario for our healthcare folks and I guess the smarter crowd.
I have heard a few stories similar to this and this one just happened to be someone I knew. I had a relative die in January. He was early 60s, no major health issues. He had flu-like symptoms for a week or so (fever, cough, shortness of breath). He went to an urgent care, tested negative for flu. A few days later, his condition worsened. He winds up being admitted to the hospital, tested negative for flu again, and diagnosed with pneumonia. Within 24 hours, he is paralyzed and layed on his stomach by medical staff to help with breathing (idk the medical term for this). 36 hours later, he dies. His death was just basically chalked up to pneumonia complications. Disclaimer, he did not travel internationally.
Thinking of this situation recently, I wondered maybe he had COVID-19. If that were true. What if this has ran through the US for a few months now and we are at the peak now headed for the decline.
Is that possible? or has no sports caused my mind to wonder a little too far.

I doubt it, but I remain hopeful. I keep praying for warm, humid weather that is historically hard on viruses.

It's possible he had an early case but it's probably unlikely we are at a peak
If this is widespread enough we would have noticed it before now. even countries with extensive testing have death rates that would have triggered alarms in US health sector.

Some are dying in italy because they don't have the equipment or man power to treat all. They have to pick and choose.
Also, many are coming in after the virus had taken hold.
Take a look at the recent case of a Nola lawyer who tried to treat himself for three weeks and now in critical/severe condition.
If the peak is still yet to come here then that will be our problem as well eventually. I believe I read there are only 60K ventilators available nationwide?
Some are already in use for other illnesses and some of the current COVID-19 cases.
It is said the virus begins in the throat and then migrates to the lungs. A medical professional friend has sent out to friends and family to drink water every 15 minutes, and to gargle with salt water every so often as a precaution.
It will die in stomach acid if you can help it get there. True or not I don't know, but we have added it to washing hands, sanitizing etc.

FWIW, that was part of a Facebook post that has been debunked
quote:
Its most alarming claim is that drinking water every 15 minutes will wash coronavirus “down through your throat and into the stomach. Once there, your stomach acid will kill all the virus.” That’s false, and has been debunked by multiple experts. “We always caution anyone healthy and people who are sick to keep up fluid intake and keep mucus membranes moist,” Dr. William Schaffner, an infectious disease expert with Vanderbilt University, told the Associated Press. “It makes you feel better, but there is no clear indication that it directly protects you against complications.”
quote:
Professor Trudie Lang at the University of Oxford says there is "no biological mechanism" that would support the idea that you can just wash a respiratory virus down into your stomach and kill it. Infections like coronaviruses enter the body via the respiratory tract when you breathe in. Some of them might go into your mouth, but even constantly drinking water isn't going to prevent you from catching the virus.

So she fell for the water thing? Wow She just told my wife and my wife's sisters (no pics) about it last week and is a RN. Haha I will tell my wife that was BS.
Too funny

Probably not a bad idea to be hydrated still

Lol true, but damn. You would hope she would be a little more accurate with info.
Oh well. I will continue to keep my mucus moist. Haha

I have a bad feeling that everything is going to get shut down this week. Other than gas, groceries and medical.

CEO of my firm just said business as usual in our morning conference call lol. He didn't even mention the coronavirus, just said we're entering a period similar to 2008 and that they were prepared for it.

Not sure the size of your company but from what I've encountered so far lots of small businesses in the 10-50 million $$ range are just totally in denial.

That's my feeling as well, straight up denial. 99% of my day to day involves in person meetings with clients/strangers doing a lot of paperwork. If one of them comes in sick, I'm not sure what I'm going to do haha.
