I think every single one of their stocks dropped after a year in Masons defense. Even McCreary.. they said he was a potential 1st until this year where he seemed like he struggled more.
This is just wrong. His stock soared on what he did in Mason's defense this year and tanked when the scouts and GM's got to see his measurables.

Playing a bunch of soft zone hurt his stock.
Jesus dude. His ESPN eval on the draft pages said something like he would fit best with a team that plays a bunch of press man or a 3/press. Maybe even make a move to nickel to cover slot guys due to his size limitations.

Pre-Draft Analysis
McCreary is sticky with quick feet, impressive body control and good short-area burst. He fits best in a defense that features heavy press-man and/or Cover-3 press-zone. He primarily played on the outside at Auburn, but he has experience playing over the slot and might fit best there in the NFL, considering his average size and short arms. McCreary needs to be more physical and aggressive in run support. -- Steve Muench

McCreary was as high as Top 15 in earlier mock drafts this year. Again, his stock "fell" after he was measured as having t-rex arms and ran "only" a 4.5. Every single CB that went above him was either taller, longer, faster...or all three at the same time.
Kaiir Elam, the CB from Florida, didn't even have an objectively great season and went in the 1st round to the Bills. He was WAY better in 2020 for Florida and every scouting report states that. That blows out the entire idea that McCreary "fell" for any on-field or schematic reasons. The difference between Elam and McCreary is that Elam is 6'1.5 and ran a 4.39 forty with a 37.5" vertical (McCreary was pretty pedestrian here too with just a 31.5" vertical).

Exactly. Playing "soft zone in Mason's defense" is not at all what happened to his draft stock. We are in agreement.

He is right here. The knocks against can be shallow (should’ve been used differently, woulda shoulda coulda) but if he had better measurables he would have been taken higher.
PFF said he graded as the best CB this year.
That’s no small feat and I believe the coaches allowed him to succeed

If I’m behind honest I’ve only red 2-3 posts in this thread & None were metafour’s
Not really giving an opinion on the issue at hand. Just providing some context on the man himself. Necessary poster in the ecosystem

McCreary is an awesome DB, reminds me alot of Revis in size and footwork. He owns his territory.
Smoke might make a special teams kickoff team since he runs in a straight line.
I miss the days of 2004 when we had caddy, Carlos rogers, Ronnie brown and Jason Campbell taken in the first round.
We need to quickly tap into the NIL market while it’$ legal.

Meta’s one of my top 5 favorite posters…cuts to the chase, knowledgeable, and isn’t afraid to have an unpopular opinion.

McCreary was the highest graded corner in the draft
I normally agree with almost everything you say, but I have a VERY hard time believing McCreary was the highest graded corner in any draft that contained Derek Stingley Jr
