Throne has to start against UGA

It’s depressing, but unfortunately Freeze has no choice. He can’t start Brown in Samford stadium, and there’s no other QB option.
There are some games where even when we’re outmatched, if the right dominoes fall, there can be a path to victory, albeit unlikely. But this game is hopeless. There’s zero scenarios where we stay competitive in this game given of our quarterback situation. It is going to be very difficult for a Freeze to get his players to believe they have even a remote chance.
During the open week, there may be some things he can do, but not against UGA at point. This game will get ugly early.

I agree on Thorne but also see a path to victory for AU.
UGA missed 1000 tackles last night
Auburn “can” beat any team. Auburn will most likely lose more then they win the rest of the schedule

Maybe we can get Bama to loan us their uniforms. Seems to have a magical power on Georgia

Why is tackling so bad across the board?

Wish I could agree with you, Corch. I like Freeze and I hope he works out long-term. I really do. And I’m hopeful that his long-term plan will be fruitful. But the critical decision of not going after a competent quarterback in the portal is proving to be insurmountable. At least for this season.
What the frick do I know, but it seems that he refuses to realize for whatever reason (pride, hubris, whatever) is that his system, the RPO game, just is not suited for his current QB personnel. A better coach would be able to adapt the game plans to the roster rather than trying in vain to get players to do what they are incapable of doing. Thorne is just not an RPO QB. And Nick Marshall ain’t walking through that door. We’re fricked this season. 4–8.

There's a 0% chance that Thorne will win that game. Starting him is conceding the loss. Despite Brown's 1 bad half, he still has a much higher ceiling.

I don't get it. Thorne is cannon fodder at this point. UGA at home is going to take out all their frustrations on us next weekend. Start the same QB who has been front and center in nearly every loss on our schedule the last two years? I guess if you want to suck any possible excitement out of the game. Start Thorne, Brown, White... we're losing that game. Only two of those options have any chance of changing anything for the future.

Don't care if we run Sam Jackson at this point

You want the proven loser whos gone no matter what, instead of one of two who could possibly be with us for 4 years.
Let me guess ... theyre going to be " ruined". Theyve only been playing football since they were 8 years old, they arent ready! They just need 11 years of prep instead of 10!

The season is over fellas. No playoffs. No SEC championship. No bowl game. This will be our 4th losing season.
Why waste the remaining snaps on a failed 5th year senior Qb when you can prepare the backups for the future. Start Brown and let him cook.

I remember a team coming into JH stadium and starting a true freshman QB after benching the experienced guy who sucked the week before. They won.
Hmmm...who could that have been?
Seems like only yesterday.

I agree with going with the youth movement moving forward. I just don’t think Freeze has any choice but to start Thorne for the UGA game. We’re going to get creamed either way, and I think Thorne will be the sacrificial lamb to keep Brown’s psyche in tact. Once we get to the off week, I think it’ll be Brown with two weeks of good preparation and reps with the 1’s, and I don’t think we’ll see Thorne again. I could be wrong but that’s how it feels to me.

Every team is scared of "full contact" practices and getting people injured. Even during tackling drills at all levels above middle school, they are just bumping and releasing. When you start doing that during literal tackling drills, that's gonna show up on the field during the game. I've lost my mind several times this season at Auburn defenders diving at feet and completely whiffing.
As a former defensive back, it's pathetic and it's an epidemic across college football.

Were there rules changes in CFB that made this happen like what recently limited physical fall practices in the NFL, or has the transfer portal just destroyed depth so much that coaches are afraid to let them hit?

That tends to happen playing against the best athletes in the country.

Because if he’s good, he wouldn’t be staying 4 years anyway.

Thorne isn't good enough to beat uga without the coaches making some critical decisions for him. Freeze has to mandate more run plays for the RBs and less RPOs. He pulls too many when he should give it to Hunter. UGA probably won't let Thorne run on them the way he did last year.

Every time someone types “ThRone” I die a little more inside.
